Find out where we are Recently arrived is this super original 1955 Willy"s CJ-5 Jeep and is one of the first ones to be produced. This Jeep is super rare as 1954 was the first year of the Willy"s CJ-5, and only 603,303 CJ-5s were produced between 1954 and 1983. Furthermore, as you will see from the photos, this is a California Black Plate Jeep, meaning it has spent it"s entire life in the Sunny State of California and therefore is virtually rust free.
The story that we were told was that the first owner purchased the Jeep in 1955 and sold the Jeep to it"s second and final US owner 27th October 196, who only sold the Jeep because he was now in his 80"s, his eye sight was failing and the DMV would not renew his License. We were informed that the paint is all original including in the wheel arches. To find a sixty year old vehicle in such an original condition is extremely rare especially a 4 wheel drive Willy"s Jeep. It even has the original jack with it.
Since arriving in the UK the Jeep has been completely rewired, had it"s brakes completely overhauled, new exhaust, the sump was removed and the cleaned along with the cylinder head being removed, waterways checked and cleaned, steering box overhauled, new seat covers made in the original style and colour, and five new 50"s style tyres fitted. Basically, it"s been completely gone through to bring it up to a UK MOT standard although it does not need one.
