For Sale – Restoration Project/Practical Modern Classic
Lotus Excel SE 2.2 - With approximately 126k miles, previous owner for the last 17 years.
I am selling this car on behalf of my friend’s family, he unfortunately passed away last year after a long illness and this was one of his small collection of cherished Lotus cars. The time has come now to sell them for new owners to enjoy. This would be a great opportunity for someone to own a really practical and economical Lotus modern classic vehicle.
Although the car has not been on the road since 2012 before this time it was used quite regularly, it was only put into storage when he became too ill to drive it – in fact his last trip in the car was in September 2012 to Spa in Belgium to the Classic F1 races with his brother.
Before the trip was made to Belgium the engine was removed from the car to replace the rear crankshaft oil seal to repair an oil leak. While it was removed and stripped the “big end” bearings and thrust washers were also replaced along with a new stainless steel exhaust downpipe and cambelt, a full service and MOT test were also carried out in readiness for the trip – all the parts used in the overhaul work were obtained from PNM Engineering (A recognised Lotus Specialist).
As you can see from the pictures that I have put in the advert, the car is in pretty good shape for its age, but as with all vehicles of this era it really needs an enthusiasts touch to attend to the areas that have not fared quite so well with the tests of time. There is some lacquer peel on the bodywork, the interior could do with some attention as the leather on the dash is starting to lift a little on the edges and one of the headlights does not pop up when activated.
The door card on the passenger’s side is currently removed so that the door hinge could be attended to, this has now been repaired and the door card and parts to replace it are in the car. The vehicle has NO CURRENT MOT test as it has been stored for some time, but when I placed a battery on the car it did start easily and ran very well. I also drove the car around the carpark for the yard where it is stored and everything seems to work as it should but due to the lack of a current MOT certificate it would need to be transported away, this would be the responsibility of the purchaser.
I have the V5 Log book for the car along with some other documentation and even a Lotus Excel service manual to assist the new owner, the car will be sold with a receipt for the sale made out to the new purchaser.
