vehicle description:
Here we have our Nissan MICRA automatic, the original k10 version- a modern(ish) classic. I have insured as a classic car through footman james for a bargain £80.94p fully comp.
I purchased this car back in march of this year with intention of my daughter learning to drive and using thereafter. It was not what she wanted (whenever is it?) but we did a few lessons in it which went well apart from lack of power steering which she did not like-they are all spoilt nowadays with pas,in my day only top of range expensive cars had this luxury.
Regardless, she has now passed her test and her loving aunt has given her the money to get a yaris which is what she wanted all along so this old girl is surplus to requirements,a shame but there it is.
A bit of info on this nice car since I have had it:
Purchased here on ebay from a very honest family (2nd owners) whom had advertised as spares or repairs due to running and starting issues which a garage had tried to diagnose with no success-great garage- see below!
We collected car on a transporter a friend of mine operates and the minute the engine started we both said CONDENSER-we have both been in the motor trade for over 35 years and this had all the classic symptoms. On return back home, dizzy cap off and sure enough, points burnt to oblivion along with burnt rotor arm and cap in poor condition.I still have a lot of old original lucas stock lying around and dug out points, condenser, rotor and cap and once fitted and set up with timing light runs beautifully.Mixture also adjusted using my very long in the tooth but trustworthy colourtune, has been nice to work on the old girl and use tools I haven"t looked at in years. No eobd scanners/oscilloscopes or canbus software needed here!
As my intention was to keep for daughter,I have spent more money on it that I really should have done and it has had new timing belt with tensioner, front crank oil seal, exhaust and mounts, oil change and filter, fuel filter, ht leads, fan belt and a rather expensive brand new rear engine mount that took some tracking down as auto mounts are different to manual models.Brakes are all good and looks to have had discs and pads not long before I purchased.
Car starts and runs on the button but by modern standards is not quick off the mark ( I run a Subaru forester turbo and most things feel slow in comparison) but will sit on dual carriageway/motorway at 65-75 quite happy.Auto box changes up/down all good with no strange noises and kickdown operates correctly.I have been using the MICRA to do local runs and attend a few bowls matches up the A1-M,very pleasant to drive and reminiscent of the old days ,no pas, elec windows, central locking and popping my old cassettes in to sing a long to,the aerial was missing when I purchased so cannot say if radio works but unit is the original factory fitment-did not want to butcher the dash fitting cd player.Has original factory fit sunroof (no leaks) which is removable and even has the original bag to place glass in for safe keeping and the blind to affix inside if you want to block sun out-all the mod cons for 1988 along with a boot light and opening rear 1/4 light windows!
Underside is surprisingly in good order with no rot on floor pan, chassis rails etc..it has had in the years gone by a plate welded at each corner of the offside outer sill which is not brilliant to look at but perfectly functional. As I was previously an mot tester, there is no corrosion that I can see that would be an issue at test time (23/11/2015) and brakes/steering all work well.tyres are 145x12 in size and all have loads of tread.there is a spare wheel and all the relevant toolkit.
Interior is in brilliant condition, I think it reflects the lack of usage over the years with no rips or tears, ashtray and lighter have never been used by looks of it and everything works as it should not that there is a lot fitted, which is less to go wrong as they say! Interior is very light and airy with great visibility all round, guess that"s why they were so popular as driving school cars back in the day.
Bodywork is ok and presentable but certainly not concours,a few scratches here and there ,mainly on bonnet, tailgate and offside rear 1/4 and a few other age related marks but nothing major, did not bother me as I expected daughter to have added to collection had she started using daily.polishes up quite nicely which I will endeavour to do along with a nice vacuum out of the interior before auction ends-no promises as very busy but will do my best as like to hand over cars nice and clean as I would expect to recieve.
The car is registered to me. I have 2 keys and several bits of paperwork passed to me from previous owner-handbooks, original bill of sale, some service history and invoices not that it is that relevant on a car of this age and value but nice to pass on.Full print out of mot history which indicates the mileage recorded is correct and for a 27 year old car, very low. Original owner was a lady whom did very little mileage, I have found a garage invoice dated May 2007 in original owners name and mileage was a whopping 18,838 at 20 years old! 2nd owners purchased in 2007 and told me they did quite a few journeys to the north of England clocking up mileage to not far off where it is now-not sure if that would be my cup of tea in a 1 litre auto but shows the reliability of the old school Nissan brand-not the modern poo now they are in bed with renault!
Car is ready to drive away and use but will need road tax upon log book change due to new dvla rules, I am happy to leave insured until purchaser returns home to legally drive on their insurance at 3rd party cover but will issue receipt of sale with date/time in case of any traffic violations-yes,you could trigger a speed camera even in this car.
I have been offered the starting price by a friend of mine whom wants to banger race the old girl but this car is way too good for that and ideally would like to re-coup a bit more of the money I have laid out but as previously mentioned is surplus to requirements and we need the space on drive desperately so need to sell. This would make a great 1st car as was intended (without a fussy daughter) or a cheap runner for someone wanting a car in a hurry or maybe an enthusiast wanting a cheap way into classic motoring. As the saying goes, it is what it is.
