vehicle description:
The time has come to sell my beloved 1990 mk1 MazdaMX5. It’s a JDM spec Eunos Roadster that
was imported in 2001. Being the early model it has the 115BHP engine. I took ownership in 2010. I didn’t know anything about them at the time
and my intention was to keep it for the summer and then sell it. But I fell in love with it, so I kept
it! Sadly I’m just not getting the use
our of it that I used to and I think it’s time to let someone else enjoy it.
When I bought the car it didn’t need for much. The only
notable thing was that the roof has a small crack in the screen. A couple of years later when unzipping the
screen it decided it was going to entirely fall out! So a second hand hood was sourced and fitted,
including re painting all of the hood fitting trim inside the car, making it A1
condition. It had a full service
including plugs at the time of purchase and then has been regularly serviced by
me since then. The car is also garaged
throughout winter and only ever sees dry miles.
With this and coupled with the fact it’s an import, there is no rust on
the car anywhere.
It currently has an MOT until March 2015, and the odometer
currently reads 136950km, which equates to only
84800 miles. Extremely low for a
mk1. It’s also worth noting that It’s on
a classic insurance policy with R.H classics at just 109pounds a year fully comp!!
Bodily the car is in excellent condition for its age. There are obviously a few marks and blemishes
on it, but generally it is excellent condition, and immaculately clean. Polished on a monthly basis and kept garaged
as previously stated. I also have a hard
top for it that will be included in the sale at the sale price. Can be bought
without for a slight discount. It’s an
early one so doesn’t have the heated rear screen, however as the car is a very
early example I don’t believe it has the plug for the heated screen
anyway. Now the hardtop is in
yellow. This wasn’t planned and I had
planned to spray it silver to match the car.
However a lot of people compliment me on it and say it suits the car, so
you be the judge. Underneath is in
excellent condition with no rust whatsoever, not even any blisters or
flaky paint. All drain holes are clear
and are kept clear regularly by me. Both headlights are in sync and pop up and
down at the right speed.
Earlier this year I fitted all new discs & greenstuff
pads all round including bleeding the whole system through with dot4. All of the callipers are free and are not
suffering from the common stickiness.
Along with this I also bought all new wheel bolts to replace the old
rusty ones. All 4 tyres have excellent
tread.
The interior is also extremely clean and tidy. With the
subtle mods I have made including the steering wheel gear knob and new mats I think it looks very
good. It has the tan interior with dark
blue seats. The seats are in excellent
condition and still very supportive and also have uprated headrest speakers in
them. . The electric windows work but are a bit slow, but this is the norm on
mk1’s. It is 24 years old, I let it get
away with a bit of laziness at that age!! Being an early model it also benefits
from a real oil pressure gauge (the later ones were fake)
Over the course of my 4 year ownership I have carried out a
fair bit of work on the car, with many receipts and invoices. I’m sure I’ve
forgotten some of it, but here’s some of the work carried out over the last 4
years:
Polished slam panel
Front upper strut brace
Mazdaspeed HT leads
Mazdaspeed Oil cap
Piper cross panel filter
New air flow meter 2012
Water pump changed 2013
Timing belt changed 2013
Aux belt changed 2012
Full service including plugs (done yearly, most recent was
May this year. The oil is still golden)
New discs all round 2014
New green stuff pads all round 2014
Lower rear strut brace 2014
New wheel bolts 2014
Nardi wooden steering wheel (rare)
Alu gear knob
Mazda parts tailored mats
New second hand hood fitted with no rips or tears inc.
cleaning and painting trim
Comes with Hard top (early model no heated glass)
Mk3 stubby aerial kit
Recent battery
Re painted wiper arms
Re painted sills to match factory standard look.
Removed mud guards. (will come with sale)
The car handles extremely well, very little roll and very
easy to handle. So in summary we have a very low mileage, extremely clean,
always garaged mk1 complete with all mechanics in order and a hardtop. With all
new brakes & good tyres. As you can
probably tell I’m in no massive rush to sell, so please don’t throw any stupid
offers at me. If you have any questions
please feel free to ask and I will answer promptly.
