vehicle description:

*Not sure why some pictures are blurry - sorry about this*
This is a very rare Maserati owned by me since 2016. This late version of the Biturbo is not to be confused with other similar models; 222 4v = 2.8 24V V6 with 279hp. Just 130 were hand built in Italy, and only 11 of those are RHD models, making this an exceptionally rare car. Ignore the bootlid badges and spoiler - they"re not correct for the 4v variant, and were fitted by the previous owner, but this is definitely a 4v!
I bought it as a non-running project and gradually carried out the work required to pass an MOT, which it did with just one advisory in September 2018. However the car has sat unused and untouched ever since and I"m not sure if I"ll do anything with it any time soon, as I work full time and have a couple of other Italian projects on the go too as well as a couple of others that I"d like to buy.
I"d rather the 222 didn"t sit here indefinitely, so if anyone is interested in buying it, feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
The car has had the following during my ownership:
-New cambelt, water pump, spark plugs, oil, oil filter, K&N air filter, coolant, PS fluid, etc
-New cam cover gaskets, intake manifold gaskets, plus a few others
-Clutch master rebuilt with new seals
-Steering rack replaced (second hand unit fitted)
-Wheels refurbished with new tyres
-Some welding to the floor - this was a fairly quick job to get it through an MOT and it was then sealed up with paint, if I was keeping the car I would tidy it up.
-New battery
-New aftermarket fuel pressure regulator
The car was also repainted sometime around 2010.
The car was on ongoing project for me and will need further work:
-The bodywork has a few small blisters in places, the bootlid being the worst panel for this. Otherwise it"s not too bad at all and is in surprisingly good condition underneath. -There is a whirring sound when the engine is running that increases with revs - having had a couple of people listen, we think it"s one of the turbos but I"ve not investigated further, however this would make sense as the car wasn"t boosting smoothly when I last drove it. But when it worked properly, it flew! The car has slightly larger turbos from a 3200 GT.
-The roof lining is sagging a bit.
-Unfortunately the car comes with limited service history. I have plenty of receipts + the MOT paperwork from my ownership. However when I bought the car, the previous owner claimed he had all the old history but couldn"t find it, and promised to send it to me. Unfortunately that never happened, nor did they respond to my attempts to get in touch. Thus, all I have is what I"ve managed to put together during my ownership.
I believe the car was a Category C sometime in the early 2000s for a rear end bump. I don"t have the exact details of what occurred but a HPI might provide some clarity.
I"ve listed the car at a price below what it owes me. Serious offers/enquiries welcome, I"m not in a rush to sell. The car would obviously need to be trailered away.
The car is listed in several places so I reserve the right to remove the listing at any given time.
