First of all, thanks for reading, grab a cup of tea and get comfy
before going any further.
TVR CHIMAERA 4.3 V8.
First registered 1st July 1994 on a ’L’ reg to Mr Crawford in
Edinburgh. Mr Crawford appears to have driven the car very little in his 14
years of ownership covering just 18,782 miles (1,341 miles a year on average)
He kept it well maintained as follows all in the stamped service book.
1,258 miles 5/09/94 – Brandon TVR Edingburgh
5,271 miles 25/07/95 – Brandon TVR Edingburgh
7,658 miles 04/07/97 – Brandon TVR Edingburgh
8,474 miles 04/08/98 – Brandon TVR Edingburgh
9,052 miles 07/09/99 – Brandon TVR Edingburgh
0 miles 20/09/01 (Speedo Change) Actual mileage 10,802 – Brandon TVREdingburgh
651miles 21/09/02 Actual mileage 11,453 – Logik TVR Dunfermline
3989 29/06/04 Actual mileage 14,791 – Glenvarigill TVR Edingburgh
7980 22/09/05 Actual mileage 18,782 – Dreadnought TVR Callander
At this point the car appears to have been laid up, until late 2008
when Mr Nimmons of Perthshire purchased the car. Mr Nimmons spent a
considerable amount of time and money re-commissioning the car at Classic
Restorations of Perthshire. Bills for this include the following: -
12/12/08 – Fan belt, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, big bore
exhaust manifold gasket and brake pads.
09/01/09 – Bridgestone Tyres, coolant replacement, overhaul washer jet
system.
06/03/09 – Overhaul rear brakes and MOT – mileage at this point was
22,356
08/05/09 – Removal of exhaust manifolds
15/05/09 – Fitment of new clutch master cylinder
22/05/09 – Re-fit overhauled exhaust manifolds, bleed clutch system and
road test.
12/06/09 – Replaced no.7 injector, distributor cap and rotor arm.
09/12/09 – MOT with no advisories, mileage at this point is 29,872.
In January 2010 Mr Boardman of Northern Ireland bought the car and had
it collected from Glasgow airport. Unfortunately there is no history from Mr Boardman. Ownership then
transferred to Mr James from Belfast in December 2014, Mr James leaves 1 MOT
certificate on 08/05/15 showing 52776 miles. Presumably they both kept it well
maintained, between them they covered 23,000 miles after all and the condition
of the car today suggests it was looked after well. Mr Boardman had to register
the car in Northern Ireland, which despite being part of the UK now means the
car shows up as an import – go figure?!
I am the 4th Owner, I bought the car in October 2015 from a
specialist American car dealer in Essex, and they had taken the car in part
exchange and shipped an American muscle car over to Mr James in Northern
Ireland. I spent a long time looking at
adverts and viewing various cars. I found several cars with rusty chassis, or
with obvious accident repairs and walked away, so I approached this car with
caution. I spent nearly an hour and a
half looking it over before I even started the engine as I couldn’t believe
that the car was in such good condition. The chassis is in excellent original
condition, it is solid and I can find any rust or evidence of welding. The body
work is straight and true, the paint is original and consistent all over which
to me demonstrates and proves it has never been in an accident. It does have a
few light stone chips to the front and to the lower body work behind the
wheels; it also has a very small light bit of crazing to the near side rear
quarter. You probably wouldn’t of noticed
any of this if I hadn’t said. The interior is original cream and blue leather
with no major damage. Being an early CHIMAERA it has the door lock on the rear
quarters and the interior is slightly different to the later cars, other than
that its exactly the same as later cars.
I proceeded to start the car and took it for an extensive test drive,
everything worked, and I mean everything, which is quite rare on a TVR. The car
was to be driven daily so this obviously very important to me as was the
overall condition.
I purchased the car and the next week drove it home to Kent. I have
then driven it almost every day since, and everything continues to work,
although I have carried out some maintenance. In my ownership I have replaced
the fan sender unit so the fans kick in at 87 degrees (the correct
temperature), flushed and replaced the cooling system fluid, flushed and
replaced the brake fluid, fitted a new alternator, fitted new steering rack
gaiters and changed the oil and oil/air filters.
The car starts first time every time, hot or cold. Engine runs well and
sounds fantastic. The exhaust note is to die for. Being the 4.3 It’s
petrifyingly quick, a real drivers car, there’s no fancy electrics here to help
you; it’s just raw power and you to control it.
Recently I presented the car for its MOT, which it passed with no
advisory items. The current MOT expires April 2017 and was done at 2954 miles,
The mileage is currently showing a little over 3300 miles, the speedo was
changed before my ownership so after May 2015 and before October 2015. When I
bought the car it showed 816miles, therefore the mileage could be considered to
be approx. 56,000 miles. The erratic mileage is the only let down to this car
really; it is however all documented so didn’t cause me much concern.
This really is a fantastic car; it has proved to be very reliable and
great fun for me. Alas I now have to sell as we are expecting our first child
and this car will no longer be practical for my needs so sadly it has to go,
that said the baby isn"t due until October and I"m not in a desperate rush to
sell. Please remember it’s a 22 year old car, and it’s in original condition
driven daily, that means it’s not a show car in factory fresh condition or a
garage queen, it is however reliable and useable in all weathers any day of the
week which in my opinion is what a car is for – driving and enjoying.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss further, viewing welcome and test
drive possible upon production of valid insurance cover by you. Unfortunately I
receive a lot of nuisance calls so if calling please do leave a voicemail and I
will call you back as soon as possible. I’m also happy to email and send more
photos of anything specific you might wish to see.
Asking price is £9,495 ovno.
