vehicle description:
I purchased this Chimaera from a friend about 3 years ago on a bit of a whim. He was the second owner and had purchased the car when approx 6 month old from the original owner (who I also know!). So he had it for about 22 years before I took it over.
For several years the car was barely used other than for annual trips to the local garage for the MOT and routine servicing, so when I acquired it, it was in need of re-commissioning so that it could be used more regularly.
Being my first TVR I was quite surprised at the kit car quality of the build, however when talking to experts they all assured me that my car was "as it came from the factory!" with all the quirks of a car built in a shed in Blackpool! Whilst the car had no issues I was a little concerned at the state of the electrics and in particular the birds nest of wires behind the battery.
Thinking I would keep the car for several years I decided to have it properly sorted and set about getting the car into the condition it is in now.
The engine ran a little lumpy and hunted a bit at idle so I had it dyno tuned by Lloyd Specialist vehicles who confirmed the engine to be in good health and producing the right amount of horses.
Next up was a total respray in Cosmos Blue - the original colour - as the lacquer was lifting in places.
With the car now running beautifully and looking fantastic it was rather let down by the interior so I resolved to have the whole car refreshed. I was intending to keep the car for several years so was happy to make the investment.
The interior re-furbish was carried out by TVR Central in Stourbridge about 18 months ago and they did everything after satisfying me that the chassis was sound!
The list:
Cleaned and waxoyled the chassisUpgraded xenon headlights and coversCleaned up wiring and re-located battery to bootNew wiper motorNew Wilton carpetsNew Tuscan style seatsAll new leather interior New hood and rear windowNewly covered targa topNew front windscreenNew veneered dashLater style knobs and switchesAll clocks/dials replaced with cream faced later style (these were secondhand)New remote alarm/central locking including remote boot openingNew seatbelts - in blue of course.New DAB radio and speakers with hands freeNew correct backlit rear number plate
If I had replaced the chassis you would virtually have a new car!
Being a low owner car it still has all the correct bits and pieces i.e. leather manual with stamped service info, original toolkit, unused space saver spare, targa roof cover and also a copy of the Steve Heath manual.
This car wants for nothing, does not overheat, has no hot start issues, has good matching Continentals all round, drives very well and sounds glorious.
It also has factory fitted power steering which I am told is essential in these cars.
Mileage on the car when it went in for its refurb was 28k however as I mentioned above all the clocks were replaced with the later style but being secondhand the speedo read 143k and it was not possible or legal to change this. TVR Central documented the change and I still have the original speedo somewhere. The MOT history also shows a rather sudden and large jump in mileage and I can assure any doubters out there that I did not do 120k miles in a year in a TVR!! The current MOT runs to January 2020.
Having had all this work done at not inconsiderable expense I wonder why I am selling it however the real reason is that at 66 years of age I just find it too low and too difficult to get in and out of especially when the roof it on. Were it not for this I would be keeping it as it is a very engaging car to drive and is surprisingly quick. The clutch is light, the gearbox is lovely with no synchromesh issues and the brakes surprisingly good.
I am in no hurry to sell the car as it sits quite comfortably in the garage and I would invite any interested parties to come and view the car, preferably with someone who knows these cars if buying one for the first time. I have set a reserve which is more or less what I have spent on the car since purchasing it. I shall not be revealing the reserve although those in the know will have a pretty good idea based on my comments about. I am not interested in offers nor is there a "buy it now" price. If you are interested, come and see the car and then place a bid.
Subject to Ebay rules I would be happy to consider a part exchange for something interesting, but no low slung sports cars please! Porsche Boxter ( I can get in these!), Range Rover Sport (petrol only) etc.
Feel free to ask questions via email or contact me on 07717483804 for a chat.
Should the car sell I would like a £250 deposit at the end of the auction via Paypal followed by full balance via bank transfer before I will release the car.
And finally I would appreciate serious bidders only. Lets not waste each others time making silly offers or telling me that you can buy one for half the money. I am sure you can but not this one!! Any test drives will be with me driving unless I am holding the full price in my hand.
I think this is a bargain - hopefully someone out there agrees!!
