Hello and thank you for taking the time to look at my beautiful 355 GTS. The 355 needs no introduction, widely accepted as one of the greatest models to leave Modena, a beautiful compromise between old and new technologies resulting in one of the nicest driving sports cars ever made, not to mention the most beautiful and aurally pleasing.
The car that I offer here is what some may consider to be the "ultimate" 355, for starters it is an early production car meaning no unsightly air bags but most importantly it has the "2.7" management system which is identical to the 355 challenge, this equates to more power than the late 5.2 and creates a rawer car due to not being compromised for emission regulations etc.
The car is also a GTS which means it stays true to the achingly beautiful lines of the Berlinetta but offers the wind in your hair experience of the Spider thanks to the easily removable roof section which stows away neatly behind the seats.
And finally, the car is equipped with the desirable 6 speed manual gearbox (As were all 2.7)
As the pictures show, the car is in simply stunning condition throughout, clearly this car has led a sheltered life. The car is as fresh underneath as it is on top, it has not suffered at the hands of salty British roads. I truly think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer all round example.
Bodywork:
Finished in gleaming Rosso Corsa, the car looks sublime. The paint quality is first class. The panels are free from dents, scratches and note worthy marks. The Buttresses are a common site for concern on the 355 Berlinetta and GTS, this car shows no signs of cracks or corrosion what so ever. The panel gaps are all perfect and naturally the car is fully HPI clear. The paintwork has a deep shine to it and it truly is a car anyone would be proud of. Naturally the car has a few small stone chips on the front bumper but this is to be expected on a 20 year old car and I am being very picky by mentioning this.
Interior:
Finished in a contrasting Nero leather with Nero carpets, the interior looks beautiful. The condition is truly superb throughout. The leatherwork shows little to no signs of use and the same can be said of the original carpets. The trim has not turned sticky unlike so many. Everything functions as intended and it feels very taught with no irritating rattles.
Engine:
The engine fires up with ease and settles into a very healthy sounding idle, perfect oil pressure is displayed at all temperatures and the car runs at optimum temperature with the fans kicking in when required. The car benefitted from a major service including cam-belts at a UK specialist last year. During this service the tensioner bearings, cam-cover gaskets and cam- oil seals were replaced. The result is an oil tight engine that should prove immensely reliable (It has been perfect under my ownership) An annual service has just been carried out and as a result the car should need no money spending on it until next years oil service.
As the pictures show, the engine bay is astonishingly clean. This is not the norm for a 355 and it only substantiates my comments about the car leading a sheltered and loved life. the original plated finishes still look as fresh as the day the car was delivered new. The cam-covers are beautifully finished in the original crinkle red. The radiators appear as new, with no corrosion at all.
On the road, the car performs impeccably, it feels very fast indeed whilst not feeling intimidating, it can easily be enjoyed at the speed limit and below. The car is completely standard, so the original exhaust system is present and correct.
Gearbox:
The 6 speed manual gearbox is simply a joy to operate. Each gear is easily engaged (Even from cold) and no whines or crunches can ever be heard or felt. The clutch is the appropriate weight and has a nice biting point, the clutch does not slip or judder.
Suspension:
The car handles like no other car, it grips the road with impressive confidence. The steering is the perfect weight. The car tracks perfectly true with no vibrations or knocks/ rattles. The suspension components are all original and the wishbones appear as new with no corrosion at all, the same can be said for the fixtures and fittings.
Brakes:
The brakes stop the car with great haste when required, they certainly inspire confidence when driving the car. The pads and discs appear as new as do the flexible brake lines. The brakes do not judder or squeal.
Wheels and tyres:
The wheels were all professionally stripped and painted last year using the correct materials for the magnesium rims. They were done to an amazing standard. Unfortunately the front LH rim has a few small scratches but I have touched them in neatly. The car wears Michelin pilot Sport tyres all round which all have ample tread remaining. The wheel bolts all retain their original chrome finish and are un-chipped. The centre caps are good with no cracks or dis-colouring.
Summary:
This car is a fantastic example of a 355. It is both a great investment and a fantastic drivers car that is fully sorted and ready to be enjoyed. I am confident that the lucky new owner will enjoy this car thoroughly and enjoy supreme reliability thanks to the recent maintenance and service work. I have seen many 355s and I know that a cleaner car is not easily found.
