Volkswagen GOLF 2.8 VR6 Manual 5 Door
For sale is my Mark III VW GOLF VR6 which I have owned for the last few years. The car has not been used for the past 2 years and has been stored off road and declared SORN. As a result the vehicle has no MOT. However the vehicle still starts first time and drives fine.
This is the much sought after 2.8 litre VR6 model which when new produced 174 BHP and is still a very quick car. The vehicle has a sports exhaust system fitted which sounds lovely when cruising along although it is a little loud! There is also a sports air filter fitted. The cooling fan has a direct feed to the battery which can be operated via a blade fuse. Other than that the vehicle is fairly standard. It has the original BBS alloy wheels which are all in good condition. The interior is standard and is also in good condition. There is no stereo fitted but all the wiring is present to allow easy fitting of a replacement head unit.
The vehicle has done 129,200 miles and was registered in 1996. With it being 20 years old it is showing signs of wear and tear. The bodywork is in fair condition although there are patches of rust developing in the usual places with the worst being on the bottom of the rear offside door. With it being stood for two years the elements have begun to attack the car. The headlining has started to droop and will need sticking back in place. The windscreen has a large crack down the passenger side. The vehicle has electric windows all round but only the two windows on the passenger side are working correctly. The two windows on the drivers side appear to be jammed in the up position. Also when the indicators are used all indicator bulbs flash on both sides as if the hazard warning lights are activated?! Could be some kind of relay fault or a problem with the stalk itself.
As stated above the vehicle is currently SORN and has not been used for a long time. When I went to start it a few weeks ago the starter motor had seized. I have since fitted a brand new starter motor and a new battery and the vehicle now fires up first time. I have only driven it a short distance but it appears to drive fine. The brakes function well although they are a little rusty through lack of use.
Overall this is a reasonable example of the GOLF VR6 and with a little TLC it could be put back on the road. Alternatively it would make a good track car as it still pulls strong and handles well.
