I am selling my much loved Jaguar XK8 which has been a great runner so far. It has had little use since I purchased it almost 16 years ago. To look at, the car is a great looking car despite it’s age.
The engine is clean and purrs beautifully. The radio and CD player works well. The carpet is clean and so are the seats/leatherwork. The roof retracts without any issues. Cover for the retractable roof/hood will also be supplied with the car. It is in good condition.
Recently, a ‘Gearbox fault’ message had shown up on the control panel. The car would reverse but would not go forward. I took this car to a local garage who advised me that I would need a new gearbox. As they were quoting me excessive charges, I had the car returned to me. I later found that gearboxes for this model were available on eBay for less than £300 with a few months warranty.
Prior to taking my car to the garage, I did some research on the internet and found that this type of ‘fault’ could simply be an electrical fault which could be put right easily enough by a competent person/garage. However, as I am not an expert in this field, I am unable to comment on this.
What was surprising was that when the car was returned from the garage, I was able to drive the car forward and in reverse! It could well be that the fault could have been a simple electrical issue which was easily identified whilst in the garage and was put right - I cannot be sure.  The ‘gearbox fault’ has not shown up again. I took the car for a small drive and all appeared to be fine - I was able to drive forward and in reverse without any issues
There are a few more issues and I do not have the time nor inclination to have them addressed as I need a smaller car now. Because of the following issues, I am selling this car as a project so someone who does not mind spending a little more time on this vehicle and getting a few issues put right. Because I have not gone along the route of having the gear box changed, I could not guarantee that there may be any other underlying issues. Once put right, this car will look ‘good as new’!
These are some other issues:-
a) I have been notified that the front footwells need metal plate welding as they appear to be rusting. I have not personally checked this but I am bringing this to any prospective buyers attention beforehand.
b) There is small amount of rust on the edge of the wheel arches.
c) There are a couple of small dents on the body - nothing major though.
d) The lacquer (metallic) appears to be coming off on the wing mirrors and the rear brake light which is mounted onto the boot and  a small amount on the front of the bonnet.
e) The inside of  the retractable roof could do with a clean/wipe.
f) The roof is covered with spots of moss and could do with a professional clean/valet.
g) Electric Mirrors have some intermittent fault
These are all the issues that I know to the best of my knowledge.
For above reasons, I am selling this car as a project as essentially it appears to work well but with some issues. The price I am asking for is reflects the above.  As I cannot say whether the gearbox issues will reappear or not, I would suggest that the winning buyer makes their own arrangements to have this car towed away at their own expense for safety reasons. I have given all the information to the best of my knowledge and cannot be held responsible for any other issues which may or may not arise after purchase.
The car will not be released until full payment has been made. Payments will only be accepted from verified paypal account holders. I can accept payment by bank transfer (UK Banks only)  I can supply the necessary information at the right time. I cannot accept payment in cash or credit or debit cards - sorry! If payment is received from unverified paypal account holders, I reserve the right to refund  such payment via the same method and cancel the sale.
