vehicle description:
LAND Rover Defender 110 300TDi Ex Western Power. This vehicle is in very good working order. The body has a number of minor dinks, dents and scrapes, but it does what it says on the tin!! I bought this LAND Rover in 2010 direct from Western Power. Relisted with a much lower reserve!!The spec is as below:LAND Rover Defender 110 300TDi Hydraulic Super winch in full working order with cab-controls and wing controls. Heavy-duty chassis in good condition: there is some welding on the rear. Double rear springs (assister springs): These are springs inside springs. Roller shutter side doors: these are in the canopy and not the rear tub: this means that the canopy can be fitted to another 110 with no problem. Lockable jerry can cubby cupboard in the passenger side wing. 12-volt. Tow hitch ball & pin plus drop plate and electrics BF Goodrich 185 MT tyres When I bought this LAND Rover it had 150k miles on the clock. It went to Tim Fry LAND Rover and had the following parts fitted: Head gasket Cylinder head Rocker cover gasket Engine breather Sump plug & washer Oil filter Water pump gasket Timing Belt Crank oil seal Heater plugs Thermostat gasket Timing cover gasket Pulley crankshaft Radiator Serpentine belt Fuel filter Bonnet cable Air box rubber mountings Top radiator hose Clutch kit Clutch lever + slipper pad Air filter Clutch Slave cylinder Battery (heavy duty) Prop UJ Prop flange + bolts/nuts etc Fuel lift pump Injector pump gasket Reverse switch Steering shaft UJ Seat belts Jack / wheel brace / spare wheel (Western Power don’t carry spares) Suspension bushes Front wheel bearings Anti-roll bar bushes After this lot was fitted by Tim Fry LAND Rover, I used the LANDy for work. The oil and oil filter was changed religiously every 6000 miles and the air filter every 12000 miles. The LANDy was wax oiled every September and the props etc get greased as well. There were a few breakdowns here and there that were rectified as they occurred. Then in 2012 I had another little blitz and the following parts were fitted: Rear wheel bearings CV joints Brake pads all round Handbrake cable Poly bushes Grease nipples Door hinges on all three doors Upgraded headlight bulbs Front and rear props Front and rear shockers Front drive flange Wheels + BF Goodrich tyres (The wheels are still excellent and the tyres have loads of tread) – the spare is an old one with not much tread. Windscreen Up-rated headlight bulbs Safari Snorkel Centre cubby box (still not bolted down properly!) The LANDy then continued her service until early this year when the turbo went pop. This was replaced in March and then used until June. Since the turbo was replaced she has only done about 2000 miles! The LANDy has not been used much in the last 3 months, and it is a shame to see her just standing in the drive, so she has to go!! There is now 222000 miles on the clock, and she is taxed until January. The MOT is due in January 2015 as well. There are obviously some bad points, so I will try to be honest about them: The worst thing is the rear cross member. It went through the last MOT, but I would be surprised if it will go through the next one without some welding. I am no mechanic, but the two ends of the cross member are pretty rough. There is no engine oil leaking at all, but the hydraulic oil does leak from the reservoir. This is located below the driver’s seat, and I think that it needs replacing. It is good for keeping the chassis oiled and the winch still works despite losing oil. The body has got a fair few dents and scratches; the one bad one is on the rear nearside wing. Western Power filled the back wing! And some of the filler has fell out- this was all before I bought it!! There is a nasty scrape along the driver’s doors; this was thanks to a pratt driving a Discovery too fast in the snow. The window is fine and the door works, so I have never bothered to get it sorted. The dash has got various holes and marks from having CB radios etc bolted to it by Western Power. The seats are rough; that’s why the waterproof seat covers are included. The rear door lock works (in fact it is new) but there is no key barrel, so it locks with a screwdriver. In short, I love this LANDy but I can’t afford to keep it! It is a true workhorse with no whistles or bells. It is a bit rough around the edges, but in the few years that I have had it, it has got me to work every day. I have broken down three times; once was the thermostat and I bottled it as I did not want to boil, the second time was the stop solenoid, and the third was the turbo. In each case the offending article has been replaced. If I had the money I would keep her, but I can’t… She’s a 300TDi what more do you need to know! I have set a reserve, because when you think about it; the wheels/tyres are worth £500, the super winch is worth £1000, the roller shutter doors are worth £1500, the snorkel is a good £200, the steps are worth at least £200 and then there is still a basic 300TDi LANDy underneath it all. If you have any questions, please e-mail me. If you want to see her or take for a spin; no problem. The LANDy is just South of Ludlow, Shropshire. Cash is the preferred deal.
