Originally powered by a 1.8 litre K-series engine producing 118bhp performance was still excellent thanks to a kerbweight of just 731kg, but it was more the way the car felt on the road rather than the statistics that guaranteed this car an instant success. With modern machinery becoming heavier and more complex by the year, the Elise S1 has cemented itself as a unique driving and ownership experience and to many is still regarded as the definitive Lotus.
Our Lotus Elise S1 was supplied new on 20/05/1997 by Bell + Colvill Lotus, with the first owner keeping the car until 2015. It has covered just 1,633 miles from new and is an early MMC model which featured composite brake discs and an aluminium engine cover in the quest for the lowest possible kerb weight. It presents superbly in "Racing Green Metallic" with Magnolia hide and was optioned new with a "Momo" steering wheel, built in driving lights, and Perspex headlamp covers. Present are the original handbooks, newspaper reviews and even bill of sale!
