History of the F355
After the great success of the 348, Ferrari needed to adapt to modern car standards, which not only were beautiful and exceptionally performant, but also comfortable and enjoyable to drive. This was accomplished in 1994 though the modern and excellent F355. New fresh lines, a brand new 5 valves V8 engine and state of the art aerodynamics for the era, the Ferrari F355 was an innovative car for both the wind tunnels tests and mechanical overwhelm – in fact, many reviewers in ’95 declared the F355 has “easily the best eight-cylinder Ferrari ever driven”. This Berlinetta was offered in both a 6 speed manual transmission and an F1 semi-automatic gearbox.
The brand new V8 allowed for better intake permeability compared to the 348 and resulted in an engine that was considerably more powerful, producing the beauty of 375bhp. The engine’s compression ratio is 11:1 and employs the Bosch Moronic M5,2 engine control unit by being a post 1996 model. This Motronic system controls the electronic fuel injection and ignition systems, with a single spark plug per cylinder. The frame is a steel monocoque with tubular steel rear sub-frame with front and rear suspensions using independent, unequal-length wishbones, coil springs over gas-filled telescopic shock absorbers with electronic control servos and anti-roll bars. The F355 allows selection between two damper settings, “Comfort” and “Sport”. These two can be activated from a switch, – meticulously placed at the reach of a fingertip for a more sporty and road gripping sensation. Furthermore, the F355 finally fitted a power steering system, meaning it was far more pleasurable to drive in town and at low speeds than its predecessor. In nowadays terms, this means it’s a great Sunday driver. The design team at Pininfarina spent countless hours in order to figure out a ground breaking design. This means aerodynamic designs for the car included over 1,300 hours of wind tunnel analysis. The car incorporates a Nolder profile on the upper portion of the tail, and a fairing on the underbody that generates downforce when the car is at speed.
This very particular example is fitted with the F1 gearbox. Derived directly from Formula 1 the electro-hydraulic system was operated by paddles behind the steering wheel using the F355’s conventional 6-speed manual gearbox. This means the gearbox is not automatic, in fact the mechanism works just like the manual shift, however the change in gears is operated electronically by the car, allowing it to be up to 20 times faster than a human gear change.

Overview.
This 1998, left-hand drive F355 GTB F1 was delivered brand new to Switzerland and has been enjoyed by only two owners. It is finished in classic Rosso Corsa with a factory bespoke interior featuring Carbon Fibre, Black leather and Red carpets. With its dedicated tool kit (complete with belts and bulbs), a file containing invoices for mechanical upkeep and maintenance including exhaust manifolds replacement, all the normal manuals/service history books, and its current MoT, this Ferrari is probably one of the best kept F355 in the United Kingdom.
Exterior.
The paint on this Ferrari is virtually flawless. There are no chips, scratches or dents. This sports car has been maintained and kept fastidiously, always indoors and covered. This is proven by the lack of any imperfections common amongst weather-exposed Ferraris. Wheel arches, bonnet lips and round-shaped coachwork panels have been inspected for any wear and tear, pavement kisses or stone chips and none have been discovered. The disappearing headlights operate as you would expect them, and the bonnet and hood open and shut with the iconic "click" noise.
Rather than the usual, tacky-looking Ferrari "scudetti" stick-on shields on the side of the car, this F355 has rolled out the factory with some original lacquered ceramic shields on the wings, which give the sides that extra touch of "perfect-finish" a Ferrari deserves.
Every detail has been cured in this Ferrari before being delivered, including the gas pistons which hold the bonnet on place when open, gutters have been cleaned and rinsed and the paint has been buffed, dried and waxed ready to shine in the sun.




Interior.
The black leather seats, red carpets and Ferrari logo embroidered floor mats are as lucid and flawless as the rest of the car and compliment the colour combination perfectly. There are effectively no signs of wear and tear on the seats. The logos are still very present on the headrests!
The rare combination with red carpets surrounding the car give off the very aggressive nature of the vehicle and make it unique to the rest of the cars on the market. Want something to WOW your friends and family when they seat in? Nothing beats a red interior. Carbon fibre bespoke interior - carefully manufactured by a Ferrari bodyshop in Switzerland - aggressively accentuates the sporty character of the F355 and are very nice to look and feel, replacing the plastic touch ones.
Steering wheel, skyline, switches and handles have been given the same degree of care and attention as the rest of the car and have retained their beauty throughout the years.




Drivetrain, mechanics and feel on the road.
MOT with no advisories and a 340 points inspection that has given results of 0 points to correct, this F355 has a very healthy and lively engine, coupled to a well maintained F1 transmission which requires less maintenance with a longer lifespan than the manual one. The suspension system has been checked and tested while the MOT was being taken out and, as a result of that, we are able to say the car is solid to go on rocky city roads, on country lanes and on track without missing a corner. Roundabouts certainly do not scare this Ferrari and has the grit of tackling tight cornering without sight of oversteering.
The car has been serviced by Ferrari dealers ONLY, on a regular basis and the appropriate service records stamped on the original service booklet.
