Here is my 1998 (May) Jaguar XJR 4.0 V8 Supercharged rocket.
I bought this car last year with the view to restore to concourse condition - it was one of the best XJR’s on the market. I looked at many rusty or high mileage wrecks but this one had history and an owner who cared for it. But my plans changed as it’s such a fantastic car to drive. The V8 is smooth and the power never seems to stop. So instead of a polishing project, I’ve used it as my daily driver - covering 6000 miles in the last 9 months, with a massive smile on my face!
The bodywork is very good, there is a small area of rust on a wheel arch and sill, both are surface only. For a 20 year old car its pretty exceptional.
The good bits: There is a large file of work done on the car, the important bits are the supercharger chains, belts, pullies etc were overhauled/replaced in Nov 13 was in June 15 and front discs/pads changed in October 16.
The bad bits: Cruise control does not work. Headlining is sagging (must have been the wrong glue as its only a couple of years old). If you cruise on the motorway above the indicated speed, the failsafe light will come on – but no fault codes so its probably a sensor as it does not affect the drive. Funnily enough I took out AA membership as I thought a car of this age would need it and its never let me down.
More good bits: The personalised plate will stay – its worth a few hundred quid so bit of a bonus.
