vehicle description:

The Lexus LS400. This is a car of engineering excellence and pure refinement.
Sadly I have to part with mine due to a change in circumstances and with an RX400 hybrid now taking its place I have decided to advertise the LS.
First of all, this is not your average LS by any means. Yes it is 18 years old but it has been genuinely cared for and is in exceptional condition and it drives absolutely perfectly.
I have owned the car since November last year and I had bought it from a man who specialises in Jaguars. The car has had four owners of which the chap/garage I bought it from was also a registered owner as well.
Having owned a Lexus for nearly 20 years, the model that started it all off for me was a 1991 LS400. That car made such an impression on me that it is now the only brand of car I have predominantly owned ever since. The LS I have now is the last of these great cars and is the best due to all the advancements that have been made since the very first LS400 was introduced in 1989.
There is something about these cars that you just cannot replicate in anything else. The car is whisper quiet, handles like a gentle giant on the road and really is the most comfortable vehicle I have ever been in, let alone owned.
The colour is beautiful and is called Balmoral Bronze Pearl with Suffolk beige leather interior. When you are sitting in the LS it is immensely peaceful.
The car comes with many features that include fully heated front and rear seats, fully electric front seats with memory controls, a lovely wood and leather steering wheel and gear knob (these were two of the very few factory extras that could be bought), touch screen satellite navigation system (works perfectly), on-board computer and range calculator, climate controlled air-conditioning (which is very cold), electric steering wheel adjustment (one of the signature pieces of the original LS as it also retracts to allow ease of access/exit from the car every time the key is removed), a superb audio system with a cassette player and a 6-CD auto-changer in the wood inlayed glovebox area, a full sized electric glass sunroof plus so much more.
The service schedule is very in depth which was one of my main attractions as well. It was supplied new by Monty"s of Sheffield (now known as Lexus Sheffield) on the 18/09/1998. The service dates and details are as follows:
21/10/1998 - 1 Month/Free Service - 990 miles (Lexus Sheffield)
06/09/1999 - A Service - 5,744 miles (LexusSheffield)
20/09/2000 - A Service - 9,024 miles (LexusSheffield)
29/08/2001 - B Service - 10,207 miles (LexusSheffield)
23/10/2002 - A Service - 11,114 miles (LexusSheffield)
09/03/2004 - A Service - 13,350 miles (LexusSheffield)
15/03/2005 - B Service - 21,160 miles (LexusSheffield)
29/09/2006 - A Service - 29,900 miles (LexusSheffield)
12/02/2008 - A Service - 36,593 miles (LexusBirmingham)
13/08/2009 - B Service - 43,788 miles (LexusBirmingham)
17/08/2010 - A Service - 53,088 miles (LexusBirmingham)
18/03/2011 - A Service - 54,206 miles (D.M.Garages Ltd, Staffs)
23/04/2012 - B Service - 66,036 miles (D.M.Garages Ltd, Staffs)
10/05/2013 - A Service - 79,895 miles (D.M.Garages Ltd, Staffs)
12/11/2014 - B Service - 95,653 miles (Elms Garage, Hilderstone)
18/08/2015 - A Service - 105,498 miles (Elms Garage, Hilderstone)
The timing belt has been changed twice on the car. First carried out by Lexus Sheffield in 2006 at 29,000 miles and again in 2013 at 85,000 miles by D.M.Garages Ltd. The water pump was also replaced on the most recent cambelt change by D.M.Garages Ltd in 2013 and all the receipts are present to confirm (that bill was £625 itself).
As stated before, the air con is lovely and quite cold. I have not noticed a noisy pump when in use. The only evidence you see is the engine revs slightly more (all be it hardly by much) and it has functioned perfectly.
In May 2015 the offside front ball joint was replaced (the other side was advised this year - ideally both should have been replaced by the previous owner). In 2014 both rear upper suspension arms were replaced due to only one being advised on in the Mot but both were done. New springs were fitted in 2012 all round by D.M.Garages Ltd and all shock absorbers were replaced in 2006 by Lexus Sheffield (this was a very large bill). The mileage was 29,900 at this point.
Pads on the front are quite new and were replaced in 2014, the pads on the rear were last changed in 2006 by Lexus but I am almost certain they have been changed since as that was at 29,900 miles.
New battery and power steering fluid change was carried out in 2013 by Lexus Brimingham. Transmission oil was also changed by D.M.Garages Ltd in 2013 as well.
On looking round the car you will find that it is exceptional considering the age. I believe in being precise and not using general terms. If we were to imagine this was a new car and then take it from there this is what I have noticed and would mention:
1. Approx. 6 stone chips on the bonnet that are very small in size and all have been individually touched in with correct Lexuspaint (two lots of paint supplied including a pot for the bottom colour of the car). The front lower bumper was re-painted by a body shop local to me who done a fantastic job as some pieces of lacquer were starting to lift and there was a few more stone chips on that part than the bonnet.
2. Very slight lacquer peel on rear bumper including some small sections of the chrome bumper strip - not horrific but present (photographs are available). Also one small circular section of lacquer on the driver’s door mirror has also lifted.
3. Two hairline scratches next to each other on the rear driver’s side corner of the back bumper. T-Cut takes them out but they will re-appear in time (photographs available).
4. The Gold badges have varied in levels of their fading (not overly gold anymore).
Apart from the above I honestly cannot find anything else that is not as it should be. The interior is absolutely flawless, in every respect.
The car has also been fitted with an LPG system as supplied by the renowned Profess Autogas in Wales who have carried out many of these fitments to LS400’s over the years and come highly recommended. The LPG system is in the spare wheel well. The injection point is located under the rear bumper in the middle. All paperwork from Profess Autogas is present as is all the annual service receipts. The system was last serviced in November 2015. The DVLA have also been notified of the LPG installation and as a result there is a discount in the annual road tax which is one of the benefits of having LPG, let alone the cost of miles per gallon which is significantly cheaper.
The LPG has been rarely used in all honesty as the car is not used consistently on very long journeys. I tend to use the petrol only as I have difficulty in bending down due to my disability. I personally have driven it on a trip to Glasgow on the LPG only (going to and coming back) and the system that gauges the LPG tank (shows a number of lights to indicate fuel level) did move down one notch but that was only after 60 miles at motorway speeds of 60-70mph and it was then topped back up which was a novelty as it cost only a few pounds. The system is great and operates very smoothly and you barely notice any difference in the sound of the engine or performance.
The wheels and tyres are 16 in size and are 225/60/16 in size. All four were replaced two years ago (2014) with Kumho Ecsta. Unfortunately the driver’s side front suffered an un-repairable puncture in 2015 and had to be changed (I believe it is an Avon tyre). The Mot tester in all honesty was a little over zealous as he mentioned some slight ware on the near side front tyre which I feel is not on the verge or close to needing changed in my opinion. I have not measured its tread but I know when I look at the tyre and press my finger in there must still be 4mm of tread and the uneven ware he commented on is minimal.
The car has 3 keys. Two remotes (both operational) and the original grey emergency spare.
Both wing mirror glasses are perfect with no dullness, corrosion or ageing defects (one of the very few common faults).
There is also a multi usb and 12V charging unit fitted to the centre console. It is powered by plugging the mains into the cigarette lighter and has been secured in place. Ideal for additional charging functions such as phone, laptop etc.
I hope I have covered all the main aspects above but if you do have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact me.
Many thanks
