The present owner has requested that the car now be sold as an auction listing.
He bought this red 1999 TVR CHIMAERA 500 in 2014, a genuine CHIMAERA 500 with the most powerful of the range 5.0 litre V8 engine. It has the rare addition of working air conditioning and also has the preferred power steering & optional Estoril alloy wheels. A Leven aluminium kit is also fitted (control stalks, handbrake handle etc.) It has a sleeved main silencer which makes the car sound very good, but not too loud, because the main cat has been refitted. There is also a decat Y piece that will come with the car. It has covered 115k miles but is virtually a new car due to all the work carried out on it in the last 5 years. Unfortunately, the history was all lost in a fire at Central TVR which is described later on. The car has just passed the MoT with one advisory for the rear tyres being cracked due to age. The cost of 2 new ones will be removed from the cost to the buyer.
There is one anomaly in the MoT history that can be explained; this is because the car was taken for an MoT test in 2008 and the speedometer failed. A lower mileage one was fitted to go through the test. The original speedometer was repaired and refitted shortly afterwards. The previous owner, Mr Shaun Middleton had a complete body-off overhaul of the chassis & engine carried out between Oct 2012 and Aug 2013. As well as a fully refurbished chassis and engine, the following work was carried out:
ACT induction kit.
TVR power PVC braided brake hoses and brake pipe kit.
TVR power 885 cam kit plus new head gaskets fitted.
Race tech hand brake cable and throttle cables.
Race tech rubber window seal.
Jonny z items: Fuel lines, power steering upgrade pipes and radiator cover with logo.
New radiator and a Clever Trevor water pump.
New front Toyo tyres fitted.
AP racing clutch from ML performance.
Gaz gold pro shock absorbers from Corby motor sport with Powerflex polyurethane bushes.
New blue ACT silicon water hoses and stainless steel snake hose fitted.
New heat shield fitted to engine bay and an Anderson battery connector added.
The total cost of all this work was over £10k.
Although the car drove very well after all this work and was very fast, it was not very good cosmetically; the interior was very worn and the headlamps had deteriorated. The car received much additional work at Central TVR between 2014 and 2015 which included:
Rear roof section and targa sections recovered (roof is like brand new).
New front end headlamp restyle (as fitted to the Mk 3 versions from 2001) with new HID lights.
Removal of white vinyl stripes and complete front end respray.
New cross drilled and slotted brake discs and green stuff pads all round.
New wing mirror conversion (TVR Tuscan type).
New seats, centre console and carpets throughout.
Replacement genuine wood veneer dashboard fitted.
New heater motor, air con pump and compressor.
New ECU fitted.
New alternator and starter motor.
New high end DAB pioneer stereo with separate pioneer amplifier with Bluetooth hands free telephone kit, and new pioneer 4-way speakers fitted.
Over £8k was spent on this part of the restoration.
Unfortunately, whilst the car was at Central TVR in Sept 2015, the box file holding all the history and receipts was being held in the office and it all went up in the fire. The car was NOT damaged whatsoever, it was outside the premises at the time. With a refurbished chassis, a rebuilt engine with new camshaft, and a new interior / hood and respray, it is starting its history again from now.
The car has only travelled about 1000 dry miles since the all work was completed, 700 of which was before the interior refit. It has spent the last 2 years in a warm dry garage. There is a space saver tyre and leads for use of the Anderson connector in the boot. The present owner now spends half his time abroad and the car is not going to being used enough. It is therefore for sale on the behalf of the present owner at Central TVR (www.centralTVR.com), who can verify all the above information.
