I have too many old cars and Jeeps - thinning down as usual ,
Fast appreciating classic four wheel drive , the design icon that started the sport utility craze- recently described as the best SUV shape of all time. These Jeeps are fun to drive, have great Retro design , surprising compact economical and durable- and values are only going one way;
Only 2778 ‘Silverstone’ metallic 60th Anniversary models were manufactured in the USA Toledo plant for US and Europe & the last Cherokee rolled of the line in May 2001 before the plant was closed down for good.( Jeepalso produced 2379 Black XJ 60th models ) According to how many left there’s now just 185 60th models still registered in the UK making them very rare. We still think this is the best looking colour combo around.
The ‘runout’ 60Th model came fully loaded with extras like body coloured steel bumpers ,special Jeep‘ICON’ 16 inch 5 spoke 7J Alloys , 60th Badge on tailgate , Air con , electric heated front seats, full leather interior. 6 CD changer , Abs, pas , trip computer, revised adjustable luggage rack, leather steering wheel , electric windows, electric mirrors, electric antenna, remote central locking, 2 power sockets in dash, illuminated vanity mirrors, Tinted sunstrip , adjustable steering column, adjustable headlamps for towing, overhead outside temperature gauge & compass plus side impact guards. The only extra they didn’t have was the wood effect dash insert fitted to late XJ limited and Orvis.
In my opinion the 2nd generation Cherokee ‘Classics’ are the ones to have with many of the early faults designed out. Obvious updates were more user friendly modern dashboard with central cupholders, one piece front windows, cleaner front end treatment, new rear lights and rear window profile, steel tailgate with hidden hinges (earlier models had GRP tailgate prone to cracking). Integrated bumpers and much work behind the scenes to reduce noise, vibration and harshness plus better corrosion protection and driver and passenger airbags as standard.
I have 2 late XJ Cherokee’s & decided to sell one as plans have changed for a vintage FJ40 project. My manual turbo diesel is in very good condition with no modifications. Factory specCherokee’s without off-road mods are getting very thin on the ground . Registration number is nice short 6 digit plate. The dashboard and dash cover are immaculate . The black leather is very good with no rips or tears as is the headlining, door trims and carpet. All 4 leather adjustable headrests are still in situ. The Icon alloys are really nice with small pitting on 1 or 2 wheels with a matching Icon spare. It has 4 matching black rubber floor mats . All Jeep centre caps are in the wheels with locking nuts and key in glovebox. The spare wheel cover, bottle jack and wheel brace under rear seat are all there as is the boot carpet. I’d imagine this Jeep has rarely been off-road & has the bonus of factory fitted mud-flaps with Jeeplogo helping to keep debris out of rear valance area. Its solid underneath with whitter tow-bar & ball cover. These compact Jeeps have simple passive coil / rear leaf suspension with none of the problems associated with ‘other brands’ air bags, compressors and sensors failing.
Starts and drives It can be left for a few weeks without any battery drain. It drives through the gears very well, there’s no front or rear axle noise whatsoever ( common on older Jeeps) and gearbox is noise free and goes into reverse easily with no jumping out of gear. The brakes work well as does the handbrake. All the dash gauges work as they should and the diesel doesn’t burn oil or use water. The Jeep has original Jeep Cumbo dealer sticker on the tailgate and 2 x sets of keys with remote fobs that both work. There is 1 Jeep Cumbo leather dealer key fob and a second original Cumbo dealer sticker in the rear window.
Its fitted with the reliable Selec Trak NP231 transfer case for Full time 2 wheel drive operation on road or part time 4x4 operation off-road with shift on the fly 4 Hi . ( For 4 low gear selection vehicle has to be stationary) .The transfer box works perfectly with no noticeable gear noise. Its economical and can return as much as 35mpg on a run which isn’t bad for an old 4x4. Miles are now 116,000.

· New rear hatch gas struts as the liftgate wouldn’t stay at top of travel.
· Drivers seat motor connection fixed and track greased
· Recent new battery
· Just changed engine Oil
· Just changed Oil filter
· Grille replaced as had small crack
· Two new rear tyres for MOT
· New rear number plates as badly faded
· . Few faults as follows, aircon doesn’t work (heater and demister all fine) and CD changer shows error when dash button is pressed. The only other note is the drivers window gear makes a clicking noise if button is held up once window gets to top of travel- all obviously fixable but it didn’t bother me enough to put new regulator in.
On 22-Oct-19 at 09:39:36 BST, seller added the following information:started and drove yesterday - Revs are limited to 2200 RPM , been told this may be number 1 wired injector causing limp mode - rear left brake was seized . would advise trailering to destination.Turbo is free and working - can hear spooling up.
To all the people asking what is buy it now -auction will run till end . Recent spend on parts / oil / oil filter was £587.70
to answer questions about rust , its solid underneath - we cut out one section of rust in near side rear sill and welded in patch . Its small area in black primer that would ideally be painted body colour.
