I am being forced to sell my beloved Suzuki JIMNY Rag top. The wife is heavily pregnant and hates this car comparing it to a roller coaster!
I have owned this for over a year and its just great fun to drive, high up driving position, super nimble steering, 4x4 that works, efficient on fuel and lets the sun in what more do you want? In my ownership I have loved and cared for the car and it is mechanically good with some significant works being done recently. In previous MOT"s it has been advised that the underside is rusty and there is light surface corrosion present but no rust holes evident. The engine is strong with not many miles on the clock and the oil and water are clear, the headgasket was done at a cost of £600 and I have replaced the cambelt, bottom pulley and woodruff key as these had a bit of wear effecting the efficiency. The car does need to have its fluids checked on a regular basis as it does drink a little water over the period of a month although this appears to be in-dependant of journey length and seems to be a factor of heating and cooling leading me to suspect a hose weep. The history suggests this has always been a feature. One job I have just completed is the overhaul and replacement of the kingpin bearings, drive-shaft oil seals and swivel seals, a horrible job which is labour intensive and one I never want to do again! Over £100 of parts were needed and I installed the JIMNY official bearing shims to eliminate the "Wobble of death" often found on these cars.
Condition is to be expected as for a 15 year old vehicle, there are small parking dints most noticeably to the drivers side door, a scratch to the bonnet and bumpers and a little bit of paint missing by the wiper arms. The interior is good with some sunlight effect to the steering wheel and normal wear and tear/scratches to the plastic to be expected. The front seatbelts do not retract on their own steam anymore but I could not face taking the rear interior out to replace them. The 2 part roof is in good overall condition, the rear pram roof has some stitching that is coming away both side at the seams however I do have some special thread to repair that with which will come in the documents wallet. I do not deem it bad enough to repair yet. The car is water tight and cleans up nicely.
I have replaced the radio with a Blaupunkt unit which works well and fits in the dash as it should, both speakers were replaced as these are in a rubbish position and easy to blow. Also I have spent over £600 refurbishing the alloys at Alloytech in opalescent chrome to match in with the chrome theme. This is a one off wheel paint job! All 4 tyres are road legal and have good tread, the spare is un-used.
