vehicle description:
MR2 roadster in red. I have owned this car for three years, I bought it as a weekend car. Sadly my new job means I have a longer commute, and also do lift sharing so I needed to buy a car with four seats. The new car means we now have three cars on the drive, and there"s only room for two - so this one has to go :^(
The car had a full service history when I bought it in 2013 up to 70,000 miles. However at 75,000 miles the engine developed a fault where it started to consume massive amounts of engine oil, and so I had to replace the engine.
I purchased the engine from Woodsport, a respected MR2 specialist and the new engine had (apparently) 50k miles on it. When I replaced the engine I also fitted a new clutch, also the engine oil consumption had killed the catalyser and oxygen sensor so those were also replaced. The car has now done just over 106,000 miles so the engine has approximately 75-80k on it.
After the expense of the engine swap I have carried out all the servicing myself, I have serviced the engine oil and filters every six months. The new engine consumes some oil, probably about 250-500ml every 1000 miles. However it pulls strongly and is quiet, not tappety and revs through the rev range freely. I get around 40mpg in general driving.
The engine has not been the only thing that has required attention, as well as service items, since I have owned the car I have had to replace the following:-
•Alternator drive belt and idlers
•Hand brake cables
•Rear brake callipers
•Front brake callipers
•Rear brake discs and pads
•Front brake discs and pads
•Front anti-roll bar links
•Rear anti roll bar links
•All four shock absorbers
•Steering column universal joint
All four tyres replaced with Continental sport contact 2 tyres of the correct size (the roadster has different size tyres front and rear) which are about 1/2 worn
I have also made the following modifications:-
•An uprated CD stereo with ipod/usb connection and (working) DAB radio
•Black leather interior (seats and door cards)
The convertible hood is in good condition, there are a couple of areas where the vinyl is starting to split, however there are tubes of sealant that can be bought to seal these up if they develop further, the roof does not leak.
The bodywork is in good condition generally, I had the front bumper and door mirrors resprayed when I bought it as the lacquer was peeling off the door mirrors and the bumper had scrapes. The bonnet is starting to get lacquer peel now and has a few scrapes on it where something has been rested on the bonnet and slid off. If I were keeping it I would have the bonnet resprayed. Other than that, I would say that the bodywork is in good condition for a 15 year old car.
The car is off the road at the moment but I have not cashed in the tax so if someone wants to come and test drive the car I can buy a short term insurance and I can drive you round in it; if you provide proof of third party only insurance and give me the asking price as a deposit you can drive it yourself.
I will not export the car overseas, I will not accept silly offers as I believe the price is fair for the car. There has been a lot of work done to this car, I would be confident taking it tomorrow for a driving holiday to France and Spain (which I did a few years ago in it and can highly recommend!) the new owner will be getting somewhat of a bargain.
The car does not have air conditioning. That"s what the roof is for! NB this is the pre-facelift car so has the 5 speed gearbox.
Any questions just ask, viewing the car is only possible at home realistically due to the time of year this is going to be weekends only, please contact to arrange if required.
Thanks for reading my advert.
