The E46 330 Coupe Diesel was simply the original Performance coupe to come in diesel form. BMW"s now legendary 6 cylinder unit was ahead of it"s time and is still a very brisk car on the road today. Effortless torque and of course circa 40mpg. The only problem these days is finding a good one that hasn"t fallen into the wrong hands or been used as a mile muncher.
Low mile examples are almost extinct and cars in such superb original condition as this are almost impossible to find. Having owned scores of these cars over the years when they were "common" I cannot recall a better example. A dry stored car in completely original form and in the best colour combination. Coachwork is poker straight and crucially rust free. Cabin is superb and retains an almost new leather scent. All trims are tight and scuff free. Alloy wheels have been refurbished and are perfect.
On the road the car is faultless. Recent 4 Wheel Alignment ensures tracking is on point and new brakes all round make sure it stops as good as it goes. Engine and Gearbox are perfect and all suspension is tight and clunk free.
Looking at the trend of E30"s and E36"s it seems these cars come of age and then disappear, and values then steadily increase at quite an alarming rate as a direct result. For me this is a safe investment and a perfectly useable example, but with enough modern classic appeal to feel special and cherish. An iconic car in its own way..the first desirable performance diesel coupe.
