vehicle description:
Here at Quick and Big Ltd, we are delighted to offer for sale, our comprehensively restored 1980 TVR Taimar.
TVR doesn’t really need any introduction, a British institution, who for nearly 60 years, designed, built and raced wonderful British sports cars that epitomized Bull Dog Spirit.
Taimar History. The TVR M Series cars were built by Blackpool based TVR between 1972 and 1980. The series replaced the Vixen, and was superseded by the “Wedges”. The M series shared a common chassis and body style. The M Car era is associated with Martin Lilley who with his father owned the company in the pre Peter Wheeler era (1965 – 1981).
The M Series were regarded at the time as being, loud, fast and having excellent road holding.
The series included the 1600M, 2500M, 3000M, 3000S, Taimar and very rare Turbo’s. The first model (2500M) was launched in 1972. The 3000M was the high performance model in the range, using the V6 3.0L Ford Essex Engine. This was followed in 1976 by the Taimar, a 3000M with the practicality of a hatchback tailgate.
The name Taimar was inspired by Martin Lilley’s girlfriend “Tayma”.
Over its three-year production, a total of 395 normally aspirated Taimar’s were built. Approximately 80 are thought to still exist in the UK. Our stunning 1980 example is believed one of the last Taimar’s made.
The Taimar (like the 3000M/S) were powered by the legendary Ford Essex 2994cc V6,which had already found fame in various fast Blue Ovals (Capri, Granada etc). In the Taimar it developed between 148 and 165bhp (depending on US emissions regulations prevailing at the time), and powered the light weight Taimar on to 121 mph, dispatching 0-60mph in 7.7 seconds. Whilst not rocket ship quick today, lets reflect on the fact that the contemporary MGB GT only made it to 105mph and 0-60 in almost 12 seconds.
There are many reasons that all TVR’s are appreciating in value, exclusivity (after all the original company sadly ceased trading over 10 years ago), the fact that once they are 25 years old they can be exported to the U.S, with hype around the long waited and seemingly ill fated launch of the new TVR Griffith, they are still relatively affordable, easy to maintain, and lastly the Marque benefits from a really strong and friendly owners club scene.
LLH714V is presented in beautiful condition, presented in gleaming Metallic Ford Imperial Blue, complimented with a re-trimmed leather interior in Oatmeal and Navy. It was first registered in the final year for Taimar production on 1/3/1980, we understand its one of the last 20 made. Having latterly been owned by an two enthusiast’s who have lavished thousands of pounds on it and kept it as part of private TVR collection’s.
Our Taimar was dry stored from 2002 until it was sold to an enthusiast in 2010, who embarked on a full restoration, including new, replacement chassis, and comprehensive retrim at Ruskins Designs including leather head lining, doors and dash. During this 8 year labour of love, well over £10,000 of receipts accompany the car from this period, not to mention the complete retrim and many hundreds of hours of skilled labour.
In 2018 was MOT’d for the first time in nearly two decades, and sold to a TVR collector. He then embarked on a further program of improvements, mostly to the body work, paint and a new period silver coach work band, the bills for which total another £9,000.
As a result of spending much the last 18 years off the road, (8 years in storage, and 10 years in restoration), it is presented in stunning condition. It looks fabulous in the photographs, face to face its even better.
Our classic TVR comes complete with a 4 inch thick A4 folders of receipts and information accompany the car, including:
A copy of the original spec build sheet / registration confirmation, showing a original total purchase price in 1980 of £8290.57, including the following extra’s: black sun roof, stereo radio cassette, electric aerial, electric windows, silver coach work band. Numerous old MOT’s. Original owners manual. Original dealer manual, price list and contemporary road test reports. Literally hundreds of receipts charting the cars maintenance and restoration history from 1997 to present. Lots of useful documentation on the M Series cars, including wiring diagrams, parts catalogues etc etc.
In short many, many happy hours of bed time reading!
Our TVR Taimar has travelled 106,590 miles (but only 1500 in the last 18 years, and less than 20 miles since the completion of its restoration and that was to have a 4 wheel laser alignment completed), all of the above is backed up by its copious service / maintenance receipts and of course the comprehensive MOT records.
As our classic Taimar is now over 41 years young, it is both road tax and MOT except, we will of course but a fresh MOT on it for the new owners lucky benefit and peace of mind. It will also have a 90+ point independent pre-delivery inspection prior to collection or delivery.
The our classic TVR comes with 2 sets of keys, spare wheel, period Wolfrace wheels, shod with as new 195/70/14 front and 205/70/14 rear tyres.
It is of course HPI clear and a full HPI report will be available to potential purchasers.
Many thanks for wading through our lengthy description, we believe it’s better to describe our cars fully. It is not in our interest to waste your time or ours with inaccurate descriptions. It does of course have the odd age related imperfection (which used car doesn’t), but for its age it really is excellent.
Our TVR Taimar, really does tick all the Quick and Big Ltd boxes, being great value, quick, well presented, fantastically maintained, rare, appreciating in value, and as a result of all the expenditure by the two previous owners, ready to enjoy and be admired.
Please visit the photographs again (there are many more online at Quick and Big) and our terms and conditions (also online at Quick and Big) as they form part of the description, and use contact us via or by calling Peter on 07860691960, to arrange a viewing / test drive by appointment. Any inspection is welcomed. Part exchange particularly if its quick, big or interesting is a pleasure.
