This was a little temperamental when I first bought the car, it frequently went black and was constantly rebooting. I replaced the expensive little internal battery (the size of an After Eight mint with two wires) and it has been absolutely brilliant since.
Up until a few of months ago this car was fitted with a rare set of Wolfrace alloys on Blue earth tyres, these have been removed and sold separately, the car is now back on its original 15 twelve spoke alloys and rubber. These are in very good shape and the twelve spoke alloys were an attractive optional extra.Smarties do not carry spare wheels as the front and rear are different sizes, I have found it a good idea to have a spare of each size tucked away in the garage so you can swap them over if one needs attention.
If you are not familiar with the Smart:The Smart was designed by Nicolas Hayek the boss of Swatch who saw a gap in the car market for a sexy practical ultra compact urban eco car. I first saw them when I was working in Holland, then when I was in France and Germany; they just made perfect sense, a commuter car that could nip in anywhere.
Reduce to the max was the original concept of the Fortwo, a car designed to get you to work and back, to nip around town, very economical ecological and easy. Smart designed a car that had a clever purpose built option as a second car, a low emissions city commuter, something quirky and stylish. They designed out all the things that were unnecessary weight including the back seats so you could have a two seater that was not a sports car or a van.The result was a nippy, sexy ultra compact lightweight that is low on emissions insurance and road tax as well as the running costs. (Of course since then the customers have insisted that they put a lot of the stuff back in and Smart - now part of Mercedes - have obliged.It is actually a very comfortable car to drive and ride in even for a big guy like me. Even on long journeys.
("Pure" was the basic model with no optional extras, then "Pulse" had a few things as standard starting with Sportline alloy wheels. Top of the range "Passion" had more comfort accessories with distinctive Starline alloys, then things got silly with the Brabus version)
I have had Smarts for nearly twenty years, on the downside they don"t take speed bumps comfortably, the front coil springs break a little too easily if you forget that. Fortunately they are cheap and not too difficult to replace. It was several models before this redesign meant I could change a lightbulb on the front. Finally as the front and rear wheels are different widths it is not practical to carry a spare (Smart made a steel pram wheel spacesaver spare as an expensive optional extra, they are comical to see and are regarded as rare novelty collectors items at Smart rallies)The thing to do was to acquire a couple of spares at home in the garage one of each size.
BONUS ITEMS: A pair of spares for the Smart Fortwo Sportline style alloy wheels fitted as standard to the mid-range Pulse model, a different appearance but fully interchangeable to keep you on the road; should you encounter a problem or if one tyre is due for renewal you could swap it over and keep rolling while that one was fixed. The rear wheel and tyre: 175/55 R15 Continental Conti Eco (Traditional tyre brand fitted to Smarties until other manufacturers started making these sizes) This tyre is absolutely pristine, it has never been on the car or used since it was fitted as a replacement.It has been balanced and was fitted with a new valve. The front wheel and tyre: 145/55 R15 Bridgestone brandI can"t give any history or assurance on this one as I picked it up second hand. The tyre has ample tread and no visible cuts or rubs; (the front of a Smart is so light that the little front tyres don"t seem to wear out.) however as it was not mine to begin with and I have never had cause to fit it so I cannot guarantee that it has never been kerbed or repaired so lets regard this as just an alloy rim, the rubber just happens to be coming along with it. Trying to be totally honest here I am including this pair of spares with the sale of the car Two Sportline alloys to fit front and back on a Smart Fortwo, one rear tyre fitted balanced and unused
If this is such a super sexy car why am I selling? I plan to emigrate this year so I can"t take this with me
The registration plates: PJ 54ONEI was never really a vanity plate kind of guy, they were a giftThey are included with the car as I have too much other stuff to organise and sell. That means that you can find another PJ Stone in the UK you can sell them the plates and earn yourself a little rebate on the price of the car.
