vehicle description:
This is an amazing car that I"m sad to see go but has developed a non starting fault that I just don"t have the time to mess about with and have had to buy a new car.
It started a few weeks ago (or should I say didn"t start!) and was told by the AA that the battery was suspect, replaced that and all was fine for a few days until it happened again. This time the AA diagnosed low fuel pressure when cranking the engine and fired it straight up with a squirt of Aero-start in to the air intake. It ran great for a week or so but started showing a Water In Diesel Filter message every now and again (no performance or running issues when this message was displayed) until out of the blue it wouldn"t start again.
This time it will not start with Aero-start and displays the Water In Diesel Filer message along with a Motor Control Failure error. Prior to this there were no fault codes so I think it"s either just a sensor that has now finally packed in (I have not had this new fault code read unfortunately) OR I have picked up some dodgy diesel at Asda...... this non-starting fault happened 2 days after I filled up at Asda, normally I use the same Shell station all the time but ended up running low with no other option but use Asda. The diesel filter was only replaced a few months ago when the MOT was done so its strange to get this water in diesel filter message unless its just been picked up recently from a filling station? I dont know which it is but hopefully it will make an easy fix for someone.
Prior to this the car was fantastic, even during the non starting fault the engine runs perfectly once started with no knocks, bangs or rattles and runs extremely clean. It has loads of power on tap and is super smooth. The clutch and gearbox are good but it does suffer from the usual heavy clutch that all alfa diesels tend to have and it was only mot"d a few month ago and had some welding done on the sills (which cost £350 alone) due to them being crushed by a previous owner, very common on GT models. It"s not the prettiest of jobs and ideally needs finishing by a body shop if your picky like I am! Good tyres all round, 6 disc CD changer and Bose audio system, heated leather seats (which are in great condition), multi function steering wheel, 17 Multi Spoke Alloys, huge boot space, great fuel economy and performance, HPI Clear.
The car will need towing / trailering away but could probably be fixed very easily by someone with a bit more time on their hands than I have (and access to a fault code reader) so grab a bargain, stunner of a summer car!
