2000 Alfa Romeo 156 SPORTWAGON
In great condition. Low mileage, well looked after and super reliable.
I have used this car to take me all over working and it has never missed a beat. It has spent a large part of its life in Spain so has not seen all of our wet winters (& summers) and so suffers from no visible rust whatsover. A member of the Alfa owners club up until 2015 and has never wanted for anything. I wouldn"t hesitate to get in it now and drive it back to Spain, knowing it would almost certainly make it there with no problems at all.
Low mileage of just 72000 miles from new and with bodywork and an interior in great condition as hopefully the photos show. Passed all previous MOTs no problem and current MOT runs until November. There is no reason I know of it won"t pass its next MOT (except maybe the couple of nicks on the tyre walls - depending on which station you take it to).
Only selling as I have Green Flag breakdown cover on all of my vehicles and they only cover until the vehicles are 16 years old. This car will be 16 in November and so I have bought a replacement works vehicle. For this reason the car is now surplus to my requirements and that is why it is being offered on a no reserve auction and will be sold to the highest bidder- grab yourself a super looking bargain.
Fitted from new and after with the best options - genuine clover leaf emblazoned side skirts, stainless front grill insert, super black/chrome rimmed alloy wheels and very low profile tyres, genuine Alfa mahogany steering wheel, clear side indicators, full Italian leather seats and the carbon effect dash inserts.
It does have the almost obligatory Alfa characteristics - a sticky gear selector plate when hot, a bit of missing power under hard acceleration when the engine is cold, a temperamental Italian key code reader.
To quickly sum up: A superb looking, very well looked after, low mileage example that has years of life left in it.
INTERIOR: All original, Italian grey full leather in super condition. Every button, switch, light works exactly as they should. Driver seat shows very little signs of wear. Passenger front seat shows hardly any wear at all and the rear seats look like they have almost never been used. Genuine Alfa mahogany steering wheel that still looks like new. Airbag light stays on - who knows when they were last serviced. The original luggage cover is there as is the cargo net and the dog guard. The rear driver side window has decided recently that it doesn"t want to open any more. Carpets are all still in super condition as is the dashboard, etc, etc
EXTERIOR: Finished in a super metallic light blue with very few marks and scratches. There is a small dent under the passenger side wing mirror which is hardly noticeable (Asda car park - thanks). Great looking black alloy wheels with chrome rim that have suffered quite a bit of kerbing but still look OK unless you really go looking for them. Tyres also have a nick or two in the side walls - they are very low profile. The side skirts look good with the cloverleaf emblem on them (genuine) and the chrome grill makes it look a little different from most. A very small amount of bubbling under the paint on the driver side front wing.
MECHANICS: The car drives great and has never missed a beat. It would however benefit from a good service. There is a bit of power missing under hard acceleration when the engine is cold but this is not unusual for the Alfas. Possibly replacing the air filter and/or MAF sensor will help this. Idle can be a bit up and down but it has absolutely never stopped, stalled or cut out ever. Exhaust is not standard and does have an unusual note. It is quite raspy and also sometimes has a whistle, it works just fine though. It drives just great and has never let me down in all of the miles I have traveled in it. As in most Alfa 156 & 147 the key code reader can be moody. Sometimes they decide they just do not want to recognise the key code. Take the key out and try again and it will probably then work. It does this every other day for a few days and then won"t do it again for months. Some people have had success in cleaning the reader antenna but I have not bothered- I just remove the key and try again.
So there you have it. Grab a genuine bargain. If you are looking for a cheap runaround or working car or want a good condition, well cared for Alfa this could be it.
