GENUINE SELLER: I have been an eBay member for 15 years - over 800 transactions with 100% positive feedback. Message me and I will give you my home landline number so you can ask me questions. You can drive by and view the car at the above postcode.
SMOOTH: BMW 6 cylinder engine (gearbox sports mode not working - see below)
CLEAN: no smoke, no oil drips, very low CO exhaust levels in recent MOT test (0.04 versus 0.30 CO limit at idle speed)
INEXPENSIVE SUPERCAR: 38 miles per gallon max and only £290 DVLA annual tax disc/vehicle excise duty (because it was made 6 months before the new CO2 tax regulations!) Nearly as fast as the 8 cylinder 4 litre 540 model, but much lower servicing/fuel costs
GORGEOUS: metallic paint changes shade as sun sets (see photos above and more at the link below to see this)
ACCESSORIES: roof bars and roof box also available - see my other listings
**** 24 hour guarantee on sale **** you can have your money back if there are any significant faults I have not listed here.
Good points:
- Only one previous owner
- I have spent £6,833 total (see below) spent on recent refurbishments (excluding the regular servicing costs)
- 12 months MOT
- Black leather seats throughout (Bavarian leather)
- Mediterranean embassy option (factory fitted tinted rear windows, and
electric sun shade)
- 6 gear automatic
- All electrics work (Windows, a/c, reverse sensors etc)
- 2 original keys plus a slimline ‘hide’ key
- SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR ROOF RACK AND LARGE SPORT ROOF BOX
- Maintained and refurbished for me by ex-Aston Martin mechanic Bernie Fineman (TV presenter of Channel 5 "Classic Car rescue") at his garage in Golders Green

Snags:
- Small blemish under paint to NS wing (where Cypriot Embassy
flag was fitted)
- Small ding (1/2 cm) on front bonnet
- Sports mode on gearbox does not work (see yellow ‘gearbox’
light on the right side of the dashboard photo). The car also "clunks" slightly into reverse, but otherwise works fine. This is the next thing on my ‘to-do’ list. Telephone estimate from ‘Automatic
Transmissions Preston Ltd’ is over £500. They say that a gearbox rebuild at £1,500 may be worth considering.
- Scuffs to passenger seat (where the embassy security guard’s holster
rubbed upholstery)
- Rear nearside tire has a very slow leak. The garage have investigated and say that it is due to slight corrosion where the tyre fits the wheel and just needs a slight sanding down when the new rear tyres are fitted later in the year (there is 4mm of tread left to use yet)
- I had the alarm disabled when the bonnet switch broke (but
that is fixed now)
- Batteries in keys stopped working last year. For remote
locking a new key can be ordered.
- The seats are manual (not electric)
- This is a Mediterranean spec car, so the seats are not heated
Needs doing soon:
- Rear tyres are at 4mm (legal is 1.6mm)
- Annual service inspection light came on last week (see dashboard
photo)
- I find the driver’s seat uncomfortable without a cushion
(but I am 56 !)
- Seat belts are legal, but they are slow to retract (new
rewind springs needed perhaps?)
- This is an import vehicle (2005) with uprated suspension. I reported this to my insurance company and they did not charge me any extra money which is good.

Official RAC website review of this model
“If pushed to name a car that approaches automotive
perfection, most industry observers would nominate the BMW … premium pricing from new and high demand means that there
aren"t too many used bargains around … if you want the best, here it is … all
engines are impressive, the 530i mid-ranger offering performance that betters
many rivals so called performance models, with rest to sixty occupying around
seven seconds on the way to an electronically-limited maximum of 155mph. These
are the kind of figures that make you wonder why anyone bothers with the 540i …” BMW 530i ("96 - "03) used car review:
