This is an Australian delivered car. It was was stolen and burnt.
Key observations,
• The fire damage is mainly to the interior, which has been destroyed although some of the dash and console may be recoverable.
• The body is largely undamaged - I had the blackened areas cleaned, sanded to bare metal and then clear coated, so their condition and be seen easily.
• The rear deck and rear body panel have been damaged, not by the fire, but by the fire fighters when forcefully opening the deck to gain access to the engine bay - these panels may be repairable.
• The chassis seems to be structurally undamaged.
• The engine seems to be fundamentally undamaged except some of the rubber and perishable items such as fuel lines and adjacent equipment, have been destroyed. My mechanic thinks the engine would not need to be rebuilt.
• The suspension seems to be structurally undamaged – indeed two of the four tyres, which were brand new, may be usable.
• The brake pedal has pressure and brake lines seem sound and the hand brake works.
• The wire loom is intact in the rear off the cabin and largely intact in the engine bay, but has been destroyed in the instrument panel area and front of the car.
Other observations,
• The only body panel which obviously needs to be replaced, is the aluminium front boot lid.
• The windscreen aperture is intact but the targa roof panel has been destroyed
• The fibreglass tub in which the spare tyre is placed, may be repairable.
• The front lower lights and blinkers are undamaged and the headlights may be undamaged but these haven’t been opened
• The seat frames are intact.
• The radiator seems to be serviceable except that the fins have melted material from the upper boot lid grill.
• The front and rear grill and underside of the car seem to be undamaged.
• The rear lights have been destroyed, but not by direct attack from the main fire – it seems that the fire was started with an accelerant and some was poured through the grill above the engine. Some of the accelerant probably split and ran down the sills on either side of the deck lid and collected under the rear lights which then melted, but otherwise the rear corners are not damaged
• The rear boot space is largely undamaged - the carpet is fine, but the zip-up cover and the areas near the tail lights, have been damaged
• The tools and tool pouch are undamaged.
• The car can easily be rolled around.
This car is not subject to the Written Off Vehicles Register (WOVR) in the main Australian states, because it is more than 15 years old.
I have bought a replacement car.
