Selling on behalf of a family friend who does not have an
ebay account. The Focus has been their family car for around 5 years and has
just been replaced with a newer model, genuine reason for sale as they have no
need for two cars.
During this time the car has been very reliable and
economical having required very little repair work in their ownership and has
never let them down. The car benefits from having recently had a replacement
clutch, new tyres and new front brake pads along with a rear wheel bearing not
too long ago. The car has just gone through its latest mot and has 11 months
left to run. Due to the change in the tax laws no tax is transferable.
Description of each area follows below.
Mechanicals
The car is mechanically sound. It starts on the button first
time and idles quietly and smoothly with no rattles or knocking noises, the car
also benefits from been the later more powerful 115ps petrol model so is powerful
enough for everyday driving but being
1600cc is still nice and economical. Pull away is smooth thanks to the
new clutch and the engine pulls well throughout the rev range with no flat
spots. Gear change is crisp with no sloppiness or crunching. Typically the
engine management light has come on this week, a fault code scan was carried
out and the lambda sensor is at fault. They are available for £25 from euro car
parts, if I get chance I will fit one and have the code cleared prior to
selling.
Suspension wise the Focus handles nicely and rides well. The
only thing to mention is there is an occasional knocking noise over a certain
type of bump at low speeds. I believe this to be due to worn suspension arm
bushes as this was an advisory item on the mot test. Replacements are available
for around £25 on ebay. The car stops well thanks to the new brake pads and
stays in a straight line while doing so with no pulling in either direction.
Exterior
The bodywork is presentable but unfortunately not
immaculate.
The car spent a while being parked in a busy car park while
my friend was at work and as such has picked up a few of the dents etc you
would expect from this. As the photographs show there are a few areas that have
been scratched and the above mentioned car parking dings, the area below the
rear doors have suffered with stone chips as a lot of these cars seem to. That all
being said the metallic black paintwork does polish up ok and the car looks
smart bar these blemishes.
The 16” alloy wheels are in good straight condition with no
buckles etc. The rear tyres are brand new and the fronts are well above the
legal limit with plenty miles left in them.
Interior
Being the Ghia model the Focus has a very good spec which
includes air con, cruise control, electric mirrors, one touch electric windows,
velour trim, leather steering wheel/gearknob, driver/passenger/side air bags & a sony 6 disc cd changer. All
the electrics work perfectly with no faults whatsoever. The front seats are in
good condition with minimal wear and no sagging. The boot is spacious and importantly
with it being a family car a pram/pushchair fits in easily.
One minor point to mention is that at some point there has
been something spilled on the bottom section of the rear seat. This may come
out with a good interior shampoo but in honesty Im not sure what was spilled so
I couldn’t say for certain that it would come out 100%.
Overall
In conclusion the Focus has been and is a very reliable, solid
family car. The condition of it although not perfect is pretty good all round
and the faults mentioned above have been taken into consideration with the
asking price of £1475 ovno. With a little time and effort spent it will make a nice economical
little run around or a low cost reliable family car.
If you would like to know any more about the car give me a call
on 07841 067189 to discuss. Any discussions on price will take place in person
while viewing the car, Im sure anyone who is genuinely interested will pick up
the phone anyway and I don’t have the time to field a barrage of questions from
the “how much for cash?” brigade.
