“HONDA INSIGHT 1-0 IMA VTEC HYBRID GEN 1 2000 Private sale by mature company director owner. Car is in very very good condition with a full years MOT. Its a 1st generation (year 2000), chassis number is ZE1-1001399 and its always been garaged and is probably one of the nicest examples out there. 62,000 miles is quite low especially as I’ve read about some covering 250,000 – 500,000 miles! Its black with a grey interior, not “nappy green” so will probably suit a more sombre owner! This car really handles well. They go when you rev them and sound great, but the best bit is driving economically – it’s actually fun and you don’t get speeding tickets! It drives like a bigger car yet feels very nimble, just like a sports car and no matter how much hard you drive, it still returns at least 57 mpg (worst I’ve achieved), but I generally average 76 mpg and the best achieved on a long run of over 400 miles was 96 mpg! Also advertised on Pistonheads.” |

Honda INSIGHT 1-0 IMA VTEC HYBRID GEN 1 2000
Private sale by mature company director owner. Car is in very very good condition with a full years MOT. Looking for £5,000 ono but Christmas is coming and I will take £4600.
Honda INSIGHT, a
first generation (2000), chassis number is ZE1-1001399. It is always garaged
and is probably one of the nicest examples out there. 65,000 miles
is quite low especially as I’ve read about some covering 250,000 – 500,000
miles! Its black with a grey / blue interior, not “nappy green” so will probably suit
a more mature owner!
The INSIGHT really handles well. They go when you rev them and sound great,
but the best bit is driving economically – it’s good fun going slow and you don’t get
speeding tickets!
It drives like a bigger car yet feels very nimble, just like a sports
car and no matter how much hard you drive, it still returns at least 57 mpg
(worst I’ve ever achieved), but I generally average 75 -76 mpg and the best achieved on
a long run of over 400 miles was 96 mpg!
Equipment: Electric power steering (same system as an S2000!), 5 speed
manual transmission, air conditioning with climate control, eco mode and a
pollen filter, dual airbags, side impact door bars, tinted electric windows,
rear wiper, lovely grey/blue interior, fitted mats, remote central locking,
electric release for rear hatch, electric windows, remote fuel lid release, low
rolling resistance alloy wheels and high pressure tyres, High power white HID
headlamps and a new App controlled stereo head unit with Bluetooth for phone
and a Honda immobiliser.
Mine is in first class condition and as a manual car its even rarer.
Being all aluminium, it won’t ever rust. I could not find a UK example, manual
and in black – so this was imported for me by a specialist a few years
ago. It has not been used in the winter!
This example has never seen salt in its life and has always been driven
on Japan"s road system (known to be better than ours) so less wear and tear
than a typical example that has been on typically harsher UK road conditions
since new. I don’t use it in the winter, I have an uneconomical Landrover for
then so its still in great shape. Interior and exterior are in
near new condition. There are no dents anywhere, paintwork is virtually
unmarked. The car"s been regularly serviced. The previous owner was a
non-smoker and clearly looked after this one very well. Being cars targeted at
people who care for the environment, these didn"t even come with an ashtray as
standard.
The IMA battery pack is fine, everything works as it should. It has just
had a new MOT for the year and everything was confirmed by the garage to be,
underneath, also in excellent condition so I expect that my car has many years
and miles of low cost motoring to give to its next owner. I reckon
these cars will be utterly depreciation proof and they are certainly very
interesting and special cars.

The engine was designed to automatically stop when the car sensed it
didn"t need to continue running (such as when waiting at traffic lights, but
never in reverse). Just dipping the clutch would cause the IMA motor to spin
and start the engine seamlessly ready to move off (There"s also a conventional
12V battery and a starter motor as a backup in case the IMA"s computer feels
there"s a better way to restart the car (for example if it"s very cold and the
IMA battery is still not warm enough to work efficiently without risking damage
to it). Honda thought of everything & gave the driver as much control
as possible, even making the optional air conditioning controls have an economy
mode that allowed the A/C to continue to run when the motor stopped, or not -
depending on the driver"s selection on the controls. Instrumentation gives good
indication of economy levels, helping maintain driver involvement. Weighing
only 820kg the engine could offer decent performance, but Honda even thought of
the wheel design (lightweight alloy) to be as slippery in the air as possible
and the tyres would run at high pressure, so they had minimum rolling
resistance. Combined with the and slippery shape enthusiast owners on theINSIGHT online community have reported as much as 100 mpg & over, with
some of the crazier owners reporting closer to 200 mpg - by slipstreaming
trucks!
These cars have today also proved themselves capable of covering huge
mileages reliably, (many gen 1 cars with over 250,000 are advertised in the
USA). As the first Honda Hybrid produced and possibly the most interesting oneHonda has ever made, I think these are now becoming collectable and deservedly
so. The newer hybrids today really don"t have anywhere near as much clever
ingenuity nor offer the same attainable levels of economy.
However, I have too many toys, I’m retiring soon and need to
de-clutter. The INSIGHT drew the short straw. Come and
view in Toddington, Bedfordshire.

The Honda INSIGHT was Honda"s first foray into hybrid electric vehicle
manufacturing and in its first generation produced as a three-door, two
passenger hatchback of remarkable innovation. Assembled at the Hondafactory in Suzuka, Japan, where the similarly aluminium bodied Honda NSX was
also manufactured. With its aluminium body and frame, the INSIGHT was an
expensive car to produce & was never designed for high-volume sales
Instead, it was designed to be a real-world test car for hybrid technology and
a gauge to new consumer driving habits. With an aerodynamic fuel-saving shape
(Cd of only 0.25), lightweight structure and clever design features to maximise efficiency, these little cars proved themselves to be an excellent concept. The
1st generation INSIGHT has since built a loyal following from enthusiasts, with
the manual versions being especially sought after. Hyper-mileing was coined as
a term for owners who used the 1 litre - 67 bhp"s 3-cylinder engine"s lean burn
capability (AFR ratio of 25.8:1) & Integrated 3-phase electric 144v
motor (in the space where a 4th cylinder would usually fit) to provide an
additional assistance of 13 bhp. Whilst it"s capable of getting up to a tad under 115 mph and 0-60 in a respectable 12 seconds, the gearing was made tall
to maximize efficiency whilst the IMA engine enabled drivers to run at very low
revs and use the car"s light weight and the electric assistance to run the
engine at very low rpm, thus also maximising fuel economy.
