I"d be keeping this Jeep longer but we"ve moved and only have one parking place at the new place. We"re keeping our Jeep Grand Cherokee so we love our Jeeps.
This is the last of the traditional slab-sided Jeeps and an excellent choice if you want a Jeep to restore as this one isn"t going to need much. When I bought it in April 2014 I had my body shop go over it and fix any rust. .There is some new rust in one place that should be taken care of, but can be ignored if you just want a driver. I had the shocks replaced with KYB, the steering damper replaced, the tyres replaced (and they still have nearly all the new tread), air filter, and all servicing brought up to date. The owner before clearly took good care of the car and lube was present everywhere.
I had the rear springs replaced last year after an MOT advisory that the originals were well worn. These are heavy duty units that were recommended for Jeeps with LPG tanks.
The four litre engine is a strong engine with a long history and this one is fed by a dual fuel system -- LPG and petrol. I had the LPG system tuned and checked late last year by a firm in Witham. We used it once last year to tow our 15 foot camper to festival and it"s a dream in this role. It"s equipped with a factory installed tow bar and electrics. I replaced the Hella headlamps late last year as the old ones had rusty reflectors -- these are bright as the sun.
The automatic transmission is faultless and shifts without a seam. The four wheel drive works as well as the legend it is. The anniversary edition has a number of special features throughout including leather seats (which you can see in the photos are in excellent condition), alloy wheels, metallic paint, adjustable seats and steering wheel, heated seats, an on and on. However, there is no cruise control (which I had kind of expected).
It is a delightful 4X4 to drive with a secure ride and good cornering -- much better than my newer Grand Cherokee.
Jeep reports 20 mpg all around and 28 mpg on the highway and this is pretty much what we experienced.
I have only one fob and key for the Jeep as that"s all that came with it from the previous buyer. The Jeep dealer advised it is easy to get a second one and involves the dealer programming the new fob. Cost for this is around £150-200. I never got around to it.
I have not experienced any breakdowns on this vehicle in the nearly two years I"ve owned it.
If your plan is to restore this as a classic then it"s a very good choice because of its overall very good condition.
