This Landcover is like a trusted friend.  I"ve owned it since 2006 and really enjoy driving it.  The only reason I"m giving it up is because I"m getting a fully electric, plug-in Renault Zoe.  So, I"m going from the sublime to the ridiculous and have to sell this car because I can"t have two.
If you are thinking about owning it, this is what you should know:
The Good:This Landrover has been looked after by AL Services in Poole.  If you don"t know them, they have a national reputation for excellence.  They do the MOT, serving, and repairs - all have been done to the best standard.The engine is in great shape and ready for another 100,000 miles.  I had it skimmed in 2014.  The loadspace and underneath the car have nearly completely re-welded, so that"s a job you won"t have to do.  The loadspace is very strong.All seven seats are in good working order.There used to be an intermittent fault in the electrics that resulted in the electric seats being frozen in place.  I had this fixed in 2011 and have had no trouble since.  We weren"t sure if it would  continue to be a problem, so I put gaffer tape around the panels to hold them in.  The MOT was easy-peasy this year and the expiry date is 30 April 2016.  I have the last 10 MOT certificates.  I don"t know if you could get the same deal, but my insurance is £233.38/year.The service record has 14 Stamps, but I stopped using it when I found AL Services because they keep their own records.I had the shock absorbers replaced in 2012.  I don"t go off road, so they are in pretty good shape
The Bad:Old Landrovers always have a belt squeaking somewhere.  If you know how to tighten them, then you can check all of them...otherwise, you just get it serviced and drive around care free.Landrover Discoveries with sunroofs leak.  I solve this by putting gaffer tape on the front sunroof and I don"t open it.  I had them resealed in 2012, but it still leaks.  The back sunroof is not much of a problem, so I don"t tape that down.The body has a few little dents, including on the back bumper.   It"s an 18 year old car that has been used by a family for the last 9 years.The leather seat in the back has ripped.  As you"ve probably guessed, my solution is gaffer tape (I keep a roll in the vehicle), but I thought I would leave it off so you could see it.The heating and air conditioning both work fine.  However, the button to turn them on is a bit fiddly sometimes.  The heated windscreens and rear window work perfectly.On the lowest setting the windshield wipers are very slow, however they are fine on the middle and higher settings.
The Ugly:The alternator has an intermittent fault.  If I were keeping this car, I would replace the alternator.The ABS might need a new sensor.The headlining is not in good shape.  If I were keeping it, that is something else I would replace.If you live somewhat nearby, I can possibly deliver to you, for the cost of the diesel and also the journey home.  Also, if you buy it and you want to book it into AL Services to have the alternator changed and a new ABS sensor, I can take it over for you and then you can pay them directly.
