Lotus launched the Elan + 2 in 1967 as their answer to the increasing trend in sports car owners wanting a grand-tourer which could whisk them across the country"s B-roads or indeed across the continent.
Using the same engine and running-gear as the "baby" Elan, the plus 2s had a slightly longer wheelbase in which to accommodate two rear seats and become a genuine 4 seater.
The transformation of the Elan into it"s plus 2 guise was a staggering feat, somehow managing to still embody the stereotypical Lotus qualities of speed and agility, yet possessing a grace and elegance enjoyed by much more exotic vehicles.
The subject of a slightly older restoration; WNP 111G has clearly been the subject of someone"s passionate interest, with a documented history file backing up the 74000 mile vehicle.
The Elan is fitted with the renowned 1558cc Lotus twin-cam unit to SE (118bhp) specification. It is in great condition maintaining a good oil pressure and pulls strongly, mated to the 4 speed box which offers sprightlier performance and great reliability.
The vehicle sits on a galvanised Lotus chassis and has recently benefitted from new Rotoflex driveshaft couplings.
The overall condition of the car is very presentable with the age related marks associated with an older restoration, but certainly nothing that detracts from the cars image at all, if anything, it gives a subtle patina that modern restorations can often lack.
A history file comprised of the many receipts which account for the substantial amount of money lavished on this lovely vehicle are supplied. A fresh, no-advisory MOT has been recently issued and a full service has been carried-out.
