Having undergone a full body off
restoration this lovely little Lotus is now back on the road after being out of
action for many years locked away in a private garage. She now drives really
nicely. The 5-speed box changes surprisingly smoothly and has no issues. The suspension
and steering is pretty much as original and handling is superb. We are located about 15 minutes from Chester. Please come and view if you are serious about buying.
Car has a current MOT and is tax exempt.
Only 2 former owners and 35,000 miles on
the clock
I have attempted to describe all the work
carried out below and be totally honest about the condition of the car. I have receipts of all parts purchased and
work carried out.
The old
chassis has been discarded and a new Spyder spaceframe fitted.
Brand new alloy wheels and tyres fitted. The wheels are courtesy of Paul Matty who has had a batch of the original type alloy reproduced. These were only fitted to S130 cars, the earlier cars had steel wheels.
It should be noted that the shell has not
had a full repaint. It has had a re-spray in the past and should probably be
described as very presentable rather than showroom quality finish. There are no
star cracks or signs of damage visible but there are some flaws in the
paintwork.
The old rotten side members have been
removed from the body and new galvanized units fitted with stainless closing
plates.
Doors were stripped and everything
reassembled with new parts where necessary. New hinges, exterior locks, weather
seals have been fitted. The windows work perfectly.
Front
bumper has been re-chromed and 90% of the remaining brightwork has been replaced including a new rear
bumper.
The
front windscreen is bonded in as original but uses an alternative type of
rubber seal instead of the standard plastic type with foil inside. This
decision was made due to the fact that the original plastic type does not last
long and is difficult to seal due to being in two parts.
Dellorto
carbs have been stripped and cleaned and rebuilt with genuine Dellorto refurb
kit.
The
gearbox and diff opened up for inspection - no problems were found, seals and
gaskets were replaced.
Braking
system replaced with new lines and hoses. Calipers either replaced or
refurbished. The Brake & Clutch master cylinders have been overhauled. New front discs.
Brand
new lights have been fitted all round.
New
stainless exhaust system fitted.
New
inner & outer rear wheel bearings fitted
New
adjustable rear A-frames with bushes fitted
New
solid drive-shafts have been fitted to eliminate the worry over the old
rotoflex system
New
rear inserts(shocks) fitted
Front
suspension was fully overhauled with new top joints, upper & lower bushes
Diff
output shaft bearings replaced
Torque
rod and anti roll bar bushes replaced
Steering
rack stripped and cleaned, new gaiters and track rod ends
Lotocone
and top diff mounts renewed.
Internally
new carpets, foot mats & underlay have been fitted.
Dash was removed, all gauges and switches checked. New front wiring loom fitted. Overall the original interior remains in good condition.

Tachometer
refurbished and upgraded to use electronic ignition by Speedy Cables
Rear
Calipers refurbished via Paul Matty
Front
bumper re-chromed by Classic & Chrome
Engine machine work by Hammonds in Deeside
Engine
Engine has been fully stripped and rebuilt. The head
& block were both in good condition, with no cracking and the head is still
well within the limits and has not been over skimmed. The valve guides and the
valve stems themselves were in a poor condition so were replaced. Seats were
good and have been cut to match the new valves fitted. Head has been lightly
skimmed. Pistons were found to be still in very good condition so a hone and
new rings have been fitted. The Crank was also found to be in good condition
and required a polish only. New main and big end bearings were fitted anyway.
Front cover was in good order so a new water pump was fitted.
