Find out where we are Lotus Elan production started over half a century ago and was a milestone for Lotus as it was the first Lotus to utilize a fibreglass body over a steel backbone chassis. It was offered in 2dr coupe and roadster models and even as a longer wheelbase 2+2 coupe until 1975 when the models were replaced by the Elite and Eclat.
The model name was revived in 1989 when Lotus was owned by General Motors. The new M100 Elan Convertible still had a fibreglass body over a steel chassis as per the original design but a reliable 1,588cc engine and transmission sourced from Isuzu were used, offering normally aspirated (130BHP) or turbo charged SE models (162BHP).
Our car, a 1991 registered SE Turbo finished in Calypso Red trimmed with dark charcoal leather with a contrasting red stripe is immaculate. The car has covered a slight 5,972 miles from new with full supporting documents and really does look like it has never seen rain - the original wax crayon markings from manufacture are still showing on the underside of the car, this must be one of the best cars available and one surely for the collector, as it has been in the past. The tyres are the original Michelin MXT as fitted new on the original OZ alloy wheels.
Supporting documents include 18 MOT certificates showing how little use this car really has had. The complete book pack with service history is within the green leather Lotus wallet as are many invoices and 18 old tax discs, a nice touch, spare keys are also present.
Low mileage, original examples of the Elan are few and far between and this car is just right for occasional summer shows and enjoyment, don"t miss this one!
