Full respray in 2014, every panel including sills sprayed off the car as I
hate overspray with a passion hence everything sprayed off the car
Honda Type R Maidstone conversion originally installed by Maidstone in 2009
to LJ51 YDO and moved to this chassis by me in 2014, history below

Exige Y spoke wheels with Yohoma AD08R all round, fitted last summer,
excellent tread, rears date stamped week 22, 2015, fronts week 13, 2015. Provide superb handling
Standard brakes all round, discs in good order, fronts drilled, “Yellow Stuff”
pads all round with plenty of life left, braided hoses, pedal box
removed and re riveted with additional strengthening to remove play in
chassis during breaking
1 way adjustable Bilstein Exige suspension with remote reservoirs. Bought second hand off seloc so sent for dyno to make sure they were in good
order. Excellent dyno results, report and performance graphs included
with recommended settings. Car corner weighted when geo’d with these fitted.
Exige adjustable anti roll bar
Exige style seats with 4 point harnesses, seatbelts removed however are included if you wanted to refit them.
Removable steering wheel, steering rack stripped and rebuilt in 2014, new cup joints fitted, new springs etc
Door cards and centre tunnel have just been resprayed at the bodyshop the
sprayed the car, only bit that wasn’t mint following rebuild and thought I should get these sprayed so everything is perfect prior to sale.
Genuine Lotus mats from Bell and Covill Oct 2014
Spray bar wiper blade, washer bottle is still under the front access panel
standard 2002 location however when I rebuilt it I did run wiring and
plumbing to move it into the engine bay (2004 onwards location) but
never got round to it, would take a couple of hours to move it.
Mounts for soft top installed and I have a soft top which is not included but negotiable if required
Meta number plate parking sensor kit, all set up and beeps but a bit over
sensitive and probably needs calibrating although still works,
instructions on calibrating included
All Exige body parts are genuine Lotus parts, no copy parts were used for the build
Full geo and corner weighting done once rebuilt done at QMECH
History as follows
The owner of LJ51 YDO owned from new and had the Honda conversion done by
Maidstone Sports Cars in December 2009, 8 months later and just roughly
2k miles it was very sadly involved in a low speed front end bump which
hit the front wheel and managed to tear out the chassis mount. The car was written off and
sold as a breaker. I have been in contact with the previous owner and
Maidstone to get the cars history.
By luck I came across the car in June 2013 at a breakers where the owner
was keeping for a personal project but other than welding up the chassis hadn’t touched it for 3 years and after a bit of negotiations I
purchased the car for the basis of a full chassis replacement rebuild. The car itself had only
done 30k miles and other than the accident damage was in perfect
condition mechanically.
From June 2013 I used it on the original chassis as a track car and slowly
got all the parts together to build the car that I wanted, a no expense
spared rebuild project.
I purchased YW02 PJJ as a Cat D damaged repairable just for the chassis,
the car had fibreglass damage all round but no chassis or suspension
damage, the chassis was immaculate and formed the basis of my rebuild
project. I stripped the car completely and only kept the chassis for the rebuild.
In April 2014 I began rebuilding LJ51 YDO on YW02 PJJ chassis and
completed in August 2014. Every part was cleaned and inspected prior to
transferring to the new chassis, any defective parts were replaced.
I had a go at DIY nickel plating the wishbones, spent days prepping them, they were in good order before I started, got them completely stripped
and plated ok but the final finish after passivating wasn’t perfect so
sprayed them as well, they are still pretty much rust free and look in good order today.
Original key and a spare key with fob included, receipts for various parts I
have bought included but does not have any service history prior to me
getting the car, if it did it would be irrelevant anyway.
The car is in truly excellent condition both visually inside and out and
mechanically, it drives phenomally well, Maidstone quote the performance around 0-60 in 4 seconds, 0-90 in 9 seconds, the Vtech engine is
awesome to drive, reving to 8600 rpm you lose most cars without even changing gear and when you
are running in vetch in 6th it is time to slow down….
Overtaking is really not in an issue you just have to be careful as if
you put your foot down you will be doing well into 3 figures by the time you pull back in.
I will miss it but it is time to start a new project, I am in no rush to
sell so no silly offers please, I will take you out in it but I will not let anyone drive it until you have paid for it as it is a very quick
car a requires a driver used to driving high performance rear wheel drive cars.
Bits that need work:
Engine management light is on, fault code is O2 sensor, have replaced sensor
but light still on, I spoke to TDI North about it and was going to get
it remapped by them and they map without the O2 sensor which would solve the problem, I reckon it is probably worth a remap as it hasn’t been touched since
Maidstone mapped it in 2009.
There is no boot lining, I kept the sound insulation and carpet from the
Elise but never got round to making them fit, these are included for you to play with
There is a small 2 inch crack in the windscreen bottom right which is
discreetly covered by the Seloc sticker, this is not an MOT issue due to the location, not in the sweep of the wiper blade, it was present when I bought the chassis and has never gone anywhere so didn’t worry about it.
Lots of pictures of rebuild, I’ll try and get them uploaded onto dropbox and add a link
