vehicle description:
MG TF 135, early 2002 ‘51’ plate, superb project, highly upgraded but MoT fail Perhaps one of the very first modern MG TFs, registered on 14/05/2002 in Belfast, and registered on a UK ‘51’ plate on 14/04/2004. This car has been seriously upgraded, in particular carrying a beautiful full tan leather interior from MGFCentre. In use until a couple of weeks ago, but circumstances have meant low mileage over the last couple of years, and the recent MoT fail probably reflects this lack of use. This is by no means your average TF, and would make a great project ready for this summer. Please check out the photos for detail of this car’s specification and potential. Good points to note: · Although I have little service history for the car (the book is present but carries only 4 stamps), I had a full cambelt / water pump service carried out only 1,300 miles ago by a top MG specialist mobile mechanic. Invoice and work schedule available. · Low mileage of 77k is supported by full VOSA history report · In my two and a half year ownership the 1.8 (non-VVC) engine has not missed a beat, and never shown any sign of overheating or loss of coolant. · Stainless steel coolant pipes are fitted · Stainless steel large bore exhaust fitted – a lovely tone, but in my view never raucous · Cold air induction kit fitted, fed from side vent · Upgraded 4-2-1 exhaust manifold fitted · 4 x Falken Ziex ZE914 tyres fitted 3,000 miles ago, all in good condition and with little wear. These are one of only a small number of tyres approved by MG for the TF, and have in my view performed really well since fitted. I had the popular Toyo Proxes on my previous TF, but think I would rate the Falkens a better overall fit. · 11-spoke wheels professionally coated in body colour (though would benefit from a refurb, all 4 showed some parking scars when I bought it, and have never got round to having them done) · Body and wheels in dark metallic Tahiti Blue (paint code JRJ) · The highlight, however, is probably the interior, which sets this car apart from most TFs you will see. Almost the whole interior is in tan leather, from MGFCentre in Wolverhampton, including: o ‘Speedster’ seats with embossed logo (currently £840 a pair) o Full dashboard (currently £660) o Door cards (currently £600 a pair) o Screen surround (currently £114) o T-bar (currently £156) o Armrest and cubby box (currently £138) o Gear gaiter and handbrake gaiter (currently £19 each) o Steering wheel (currently £150) o Centre tunnel (currently £156) o Sun visors (currently £42) o Even the immaculate carpets are striped with leather to match o Altogether makes for a great place to be – this is by some margin the most comfortable TF I’ve driven. · Soft top with heated glass rear screen, and trimmed in matching tan leather. (Although connected to the screen wiring, there is no evidence the screen has been connected up to the required relay / switch) · Pioneer face-off diskless stereo unit fitted, with FM radio, USB and aux input And the not so good ... But of course it’s not perfect, or it wouldn’t have just failed its MoT: · A couple of minor points, easily resolved o Rear indicator bulbs are ‘not orange enough’ as colour has peeled – need replacing o Wiper blades apparently not clearing screen adequately – need replacing · Excessive play in upper offside front ball joint · Offside outer sill needs welding for three prescribed mounting points · Rear brakes need a good refurb. o Nearside brake binding. This has contributed to o Excessive play in that wheel bearing, and to o Handbrake not recording enough effort o Overall, likely to need discs, pads and a caliper refurb or replacement · A few advisories covering corrosion to front lower suspension arms, and to brake pipes, and slight play on front upper suspension arm inner bushes. There is one blemish to the interior, where a minor leak from a badly-adjusted window has led to some mildew marks on the passenger side leather door card - this could do with some proper treatment. I had intended to keep this car for several years, and would have been happy to get all of this work completed, but family circumstances and a recent bereavement mean I can’t give this the focus it needs, so I need to pass it on to someone who can get it back on the road and enjoy it, hopefully for years to come. It must surely be too good to break? I recommend viewing before the auction ends to get a feel of the potential this car has – I work flexibly from home so could arrange for it to be viewed at most times. If you have any questions please contact me through ebay and I’ll do my best to answer them. Many thanks for your interest, and if this looks like a project that would interest you please get in touch. I’m going to miss this car! Collection only, from Northampton. Cash on collection, or bank transfer by arrangement.
