vehicle description:
Not sure how best to describe this, It started as someone else"s project, he lost interest, I bought it and now I have lost interest
Originally, MG ZR 1.4 16v
The 1.4 ended its days due to HGF, around 85,000 miles - the previous owner went to his local scrap yard to get a replacement engine. He came home with a 1.8 Turbo lump removed from a 2003 Rover 75.
The previous keeper managed to get the turbo engine installed and running but gave up as he discovered it had also blown the head gasket.
I bought the car late 2015 with the intention of getting the project completed, as well as needing to sort the head gasket, there were other parts to be bought to get the best out of the engine.
I had the head skimmed, new stem seals, new multi layered steel gasket kit, new head bolts
Other parts bought
New radiatorNew slimline cooling fanFSE fuel regulator, inc glycerine filled gaugeFSE fuel rail adaptorGizzmo electronic boost control solenoid, controlled by the ECU
ECU from Kmaps.co.uk, claiming 200bhp / 270NmKmaps.co.uk previously known as ZandF tuning
She starts and drives very well in my opinion, there are things which I would change if I were to throw any more money at it, the brakes could do with being bigger, front discs and calipers from a ZR 160 would be my recommendation. Then if you want to make it look a bit cleaner, there are a couple of spots of rust showing through, no rust holes just scabs, the interior has seen better days and the drivers bolster has worn, the bonnet has some scratched which have been touched in by someone with a colour pen (crap colour match, they never work). the passenger door has a couple of dents.
Please have a good look at the pictures.... I would describe this as a 75% complete project, it can be taxed and driven away by who ever the new keeper turns out to be
If I spend any more money on this then I will be asking more for it, as it is currently I think it is a very fair price... could probably get about the same if I broke it for parts
Ideal purchase for anyone who likes to play about or if you want the engine and all the running gear to drop into your MG then do as you please with the left overs.
