Here we have for sale a Maserati 222i Coupe in Dark Aquamarina Metallic Blue. Powered by a 2 litre twin-turbo V6, producing 180 bhp this car was originally for the Italian market to get around their vicious tax rules for large engine cars
My brother and I got this car in the summer of 2016 and loved using it in the balmy evenings listening to the twin turbo engine shattering the silence of the of the countryside, however, there were a few things that needed attending to, to make this car fantastic. We took the car off the road in the winter and started a plan to bring her back to glory.
As with all best intentions, they are subject to change, and both my brother’s and my businesses demanded all our attention and lovelyMaserati got overlooked. Fast forward to March 2018, and discussions started again with the restoration, but again, an opportunity too good to miss happened and a Maserati 430 was purchased. God help us…
As you can imagine, this threw a spanner in the works, and the inevitable had to happen, so it is with heavy hearts that the 222i is up for sale.
What can I tell you about the car?
Well…
She is an import from Italy and is left hand drive.
She ran beautifully with no smoke and pulled like a train and turned may a head. The issues that had become apparent when we were using it were:
The Steering: This can be likened to stirring a pot of porridge. Having done some research, this is a common fault and a relatively easy fix. The bushes in the rack have perished/worn and kits can be bought to repair this.
Alternator: A new alternator will be required or at least refurbished along with some of the wiring (typical Italian) as this decided to have a hissy fit and stared to smoulder (no fire).
Electrics in General: Throughout its life there have been a few, one would say, innovative fixes to the wiring and I would suggest that this would need looking at.
Brakes: There was a brake imbalance, could be a calliper or a disc and she would like to pull a little under heavy braking (factor that with the steering, she sorted the men from the boys)
The last MOT ran out in March 2017 and the advisory was that there was play in the steering rack ends.
We have a small wad of paperwork for the car including a bill of sale in 2002, and some old MOTs
Please note that this car will have to be trailered away.
Unfortunately, as we have been preparing her for sale, some little monkey has damaged the rear wing. The paint isn’t broken and a good dent man should be able to fix this (see photo). We are sure it is her wat of telling us she doesn’t want to leave.
