Awesome fun and fast MX5 track / drift / fast road car. All top parts used and professionally installed. Upgrades cost 3K!! Regularly bullies cars with two or three times the power out the way on track and is genuinely more fun than our Nissan GTR company vehicle on the road. I"m only selling due to moving to the USA and am VERY tempted to ship it and keep it!
Standard car was a 1.8 Icon. Only 750 of these were made and they benefit from the factory 6 speed gearbox and Torsen limited slip diff, which locks perfectly and provides predictable on limit handling and makes it VERY easy to drift if that"s your thing! Standard Icons with this mileage are selling for around 3K in this condition
Upgrades as follows:
TR Lane roll bar with welded harness bar (£335) - the standard car has NO roll protection. For track or fast road use, this is essential. It also stiffened the chassis and improved the handling
Gaz Gold Pro adjustable coilovers (£595) - this suspension is used in the MX5 race series and is regarded as the best suspension for MX5s. These were built to my spec by Gaz with medium springs so the car rides bumps on the road well, but is also stiff enough for the track
2 X Sparco Sprint bucket seats (£320) - the best seats that will fit in an MX5!! I had the standard seat mounts modified so the seats are mounted on the original sliders. Unlike a lot of modified rubbish, this means they fit properly and you don"t need to get the spanners out to adjust them!
Custom made cat back exhaust system by Infinity Exhausts (£270) - Made to my spec. Makes a lovely sound but is not too loud for the road and is under the decibel limit for every track in the UK. Combined with the induction kit, this has made the car breathe much better and improved throttle response
OMP steering wheel and boss (£130) - the wheel is very small and gives great feedback and response on track. I also have the standard wheel with airbag module - see below
Pipercross Induction Kit (£80)
4 X Federal RSR semi slick road legal tyres (£215) - after researching on the forums, these were the most recommended tyre for MX5s and they are AMAZING. Completely transformed the braking and handling. Probably have another few trackdays left in them or thousands of road miles!
EBC Yellow stuff pads, top quality brake fluid and new OEM style Pagid discs all round (£190) - I was advised by an endurance racer who ran an MX5 that this is all he used for a 12 hour race and they have NEVER faded on track
4 wheel alignment by Protyre Bournemouth (essential for MX5s!!)
Labour costs for fitting, setup, FULL service and general tidying by Bonsai Japanese performance car specialists (£680)
The previous owner fitted a new roof just before I bought the car a year ago. It works perfectly and is 100% water tight
Also included in the sale is an OMP red 3 point harness with pads, Sparco helmet with bag in as new condition, the original wooden Nardi steering wheel (with airbag), gearnob and handbrake lever. These are selling on ebay for £300 alone! So you"ll have everything you need ready for the trackday season to begin
The car comes with some old MOTs, receipts for the above and a receipt for the cambelt, water pump and headset fitted in 2011. I"ve changed the oil and filter after each track day (the car has done 4). The only advisory on the last MOT was slight corrosion on the chassis. The MOT tester told me it would be fine for the next couple of years, but will eventually need a small bit of welding, which he would have charged £80 for
The car starts first time, every time and has been 100% reliable. I"ve driven it from the south coast to Scotland and back, after all the mods, and it was comfortable and faultless. The temp gauge NEVER moves, even during a 30C trackday in the summer
A couple of points to make you aware of before you view / bid on the car:
1. The car has the standard MX5 100K mile tap from the hydraulic lifters. It isn"t very loud and is a common thing with MX5s. My mechanic has checked it out and told me there is nothing to worry about. If he doesn"t want to take my money then I tend to believe him! It doesn"t affect performance but I want to be completely honest with this advert
2. There is a patch of the drivers side sill (pictured) where the paint has crazed under the lacquer. The sill is rock solid having been replaced by the previous owner who builds hotrods professionally and the lacquer isn"t broken, so the issue is merely superficial. He basically ran out of time when finishing the fix and bodged the paint job! I bought the car for driving, not posing, so it"s never bothered me. It would cost about £100 to get it sprayed
3. There is an occasional knock under full steering lock, or heavy chassis loads (very hard braking / cornering on track). I have had EVERY nut and bold of the car checked by three mechanics who also road tested it (receipt to prove), all of which concluded it must be a tiny movement in the chassis and is nothing to worry about. You cannot feel it and it does not affect the performance / handling of the car. You will most likely not hear it on a test drive, or in general driving but again, I want to be completely honest in the advert
I have been very honest with this advert and therefore, will not reduce the price due to any of the issues already disclosed in the advert - please don"t waste either of our time trying. I will not deal with agents and I"m not in a hurry to sell, as my friend is happy to store the car if it isn"t sold by the time I move, or I"ll just take it with me!
