vehicle description:
Rare late diesel seven seater with manual gearbox. White. This is a well used but regularly-maintained car in a generally good condition for its age and mileage (see below). MOT to March 2015. Tax currently to Aug 2015, but with new DVLA rules buyer will have to retax. Specification includes 5 speed manual, cloth seats (see below), electric sunroof, electric windows, roof bars, tow bar (not M-B), recent Sony CD stereo/mp3, seven seats, and extra lap/diagonal seat belt for the central rear seat. I record all fuel purchased, and I average approx. 7.5 (34mpg) and on longer runs 8 (36mpg) miles per litre of diesel. 3 keys with remote blippers. I have had this car from new (initially as my company car), and it’s been really useful, but the children have all grown up, and we no longer need it. It has had a full sequence of services from approved Mercedes specialists for all of its life, (most from my nearest dealer Mercedes Great West Road) though I no longer have most of the receipts. Within the last 3-4 years, the car has had lots of work done including new spheres, new fuel tank and fuel lines, new low pressure fuel seals/gaskets, new radiator, new rear hydraulic lines, chassis reinforcement welding and fresh under body sealing, new front ball joints, new alternator, new battery, new glow plugs etc, all carried out by an approved Mercedes service agent. This year, it had all new brake pads and discs (front) and pads (rear), and a reconditioned steering box, so it’s driving pretty well. In over 270,000 miles, it has failed us only once, when the alternator failed. Tyres and exhaust are good for the moment. It had a bodywork overhaul 4 years ago, again by an approved MB bodyshop. First registered July 1994, one previous owner (my employer). Bodywork - small rust hole to the right side of the boot lid (see picture), some minor rust patches on the front bonnet, and the standard corrosion around the near side rear quarter light. About five years ago, a learner driver parked into the near side passenger doors, which have been professionally repaired and not at all obvious (see pics), but still visible to a highly trained eye. I parked into an invisible tree last week (see pic). Few light bumper scratches, but no other significant body damage. Internally, the driver’s seat has just been replaced and is now almost like new; it’s dark grey in contrast with the rest of the interior which is dark blue, but it’s a massive improvement. There is a small cut (2-3mm) in the padded fascia in front of the near side passenger. Mechanically, the SRS system is not working (since the alternator failure), and both the tacho and the cold start tick-over boost only work very rarely (this is a very long term fault, although both have worked briefly within the last year, and it is almost certainly due to a minor fault in some shared wiring). The door locks are sometimes reluctant to open with the blipper, they close fine and work well with the key (the keylock on the boot needs freeing) . The engine starts easily both hot and cold, and uses approx. 1 litre of oil per 10,000 miles, with no smoke. The bush on the belt tensioner needs replacing, and this makes some noise. Pretty much everything else is working as it should be, and no other inappropriate noises or problems that I am aware of, except maybe some wear to the gear selector. Last lube service (oil and filter) in February 2014. Since new, we have used this car regularly to drive between Richmond and Cornwall (last trip 3 weeks ago), and this accounts for nearly all the mileage. I am listing this car to sell it, starting the bidding at 99p. Viewing in West London is recommended and welcomed – phone me on 07941 355792 to arrange this or to ask any questions not covered here. You are bidding to buy not to view; if you want to view, then phone me and come and see it before you bid. I am allowing plenty of time for viewing, and I will expect payment of 50% of the auction price within 48 hours. After that, I will offer the car to the next bidder.
