vehicle description:
Hi there.
I bought this car a little while ago on eBay with the intention of tidying up the few small jobs and getting it ready for summer cruising.
However sadly, I was told last week that I would be made redundant in 4 weeks and alas as we have a few cars, this one will have to go first as it was always only ever going to be a weekend car at best.
I was originally sold this car in trust to someone from up in Lancashire and I personally feel I was very mislead, so I will do my utter best to be completely clear with you all, because after all there are some dodgy people out there.
In all honesty I know I should have gone to check the car first, but I guess I"m just old fashioned and I still believe in trust. Be it over the phone, or face to face.
Anyway, back to the BOXSTER.
Firstly, I had never seen a green one before, and should I point out I used to work for Porsche in New Zealand for a number of years and I love the BOXSTER. It was always regarded as Porsche bests kept secret. Turns out from reading the service history that one of the previous owners had it reprinted (by Porsche) to a dark Emerald green, as the car was initially a pale green. This is all documented in the history, and the vin recorded it at the time also.
The interior is light grey and is leather. The drivers seat has a tiny hole in the usual place on the bolster (not really noticeable).. Fairly normal.
The other unusual thing is the car is a rare 5 speed Automatic! Which has buttons on the steering wheel if you want to drive it in manual mode.. Much more fun, and also a breeze when you in traffic or living in the city.Manuals are great, but we wanted a cruiser, not a busy car. Plus most manuals have been driven hard their entire life by comparison.
The roof arms that connect to the motor have been removed, and I suspect its because one got bent, and never replaced. Quite a common flaw of the design actually, and parts for these are dirt cheap. The roof goes up and down manually fine, and is 100% waterproof. The rear windscreen is glass, and is flawless.
Tyres are great, handling is great, stereo is great.Bodywork is ok. No dents or scratches really. The side skirt on one side is slightly off, but again I"m being picky as its on the Internet. The rear spoiler is based on a Carrera GT and makes it quite like a Cayman R in my opinion. (Not everyone"s thing I know)
The previous owner had rear sensors fitted but aren"t connected and are ugly in my opinion.I wanted to get a bumper from a crashed one and get it painted and put on, but again not costly if you wanted to get it done yourself.
2 keys (both need a battery, and one is a little more worn than the other). It has a very comprehensive service history.. Mostly Porsche actually.
We just drove it from Somerset to Alton Towers on the bank holiday weekend and it loves the motorway. One thing that is frustrating is that the front suspension has started creaking/squeaking, and following some research I"ve done its actually quite a common thing on the BOXSTER 986 and the 911 996 Range. It appears that the front arms get stiff and the ball joints get dry and as a result they squeak/creak.I will get it taken in and have a garage rectify that as it is purely a matter of lubricant. (by all means check the forums and you"ll see its a common thing)
I"m probably going to loose money from being originally mis-sold the car, but I have to consolidate now that my job is ending in a few weeks.Plus this is car number 4 for us, so it was always going to be a toy to enjoy for the Summer days.
Car is sold as seen as I"m not a dealer. But I am a proper Porsche person, as this is our fourth one so feel free to ask me anything.I"d love to put the money into it as its a great car and it won"t cost a great deal to tidy up the little things but I"m afraid I can"t justify it now.
I do have the vehicle advertised locally so it may be removed before the auction ends, however I will entertain REAL people with REAL questions who are GENUINELY interested.
May consider part exchange for something small like a mini as i could justify it on a daily basis, as my beloved 4.8 is BMW X5 is also going to have to go on the chopping block soon.
Email me any questions.. Thanks Joe.
