Following a period of postponed development, the 1986 model year brought a host of improvements to the classic air-cooled Porsche 911. Perhaps the most noticeable upgrade was the changes to the ventilation system: four much larger vents in the dashboard greatly improving cabin airflow.  Seats were lowered 20mm, with further electric height adjustment made standard. Dashboard switchgear was revised, with a new and more accurate cabin air temp sensor also finding its way on to the dashboard.
Under the skin, the 1986 model year 911s had better suspension, including thicker front and rear anti-roll bars and bigger rear torsion bars than in previous years. A new centre console design was introduced, surrounding the familiar 5-speed 915 shift lever. Although the following year would see the introduction of the G50 transmission, the 915 was still a great gearbox, with closer ties to the iconic early 911s including the Carrera RS. The smaller, lighter 915 also had an oil cooler, which the bulkier G50 did without.

MOT’d until November 2015, this Porsche comes with a period ‘911’ registration and is very presentable overall. Inside, the cabin is very comfortable with leather in good condition. Detailing the seats with high quality leather food would improve the appearance still further. The Targa top is in fine condition with the roof catches working well.
While the car still has all the period charm of a factory black 3.2 Carrera Targa, as with most Carreras of this vintage, the bodywork is beginning to show signs of its age, with localised rust bubbles in one or two places, and some paint fading under the Targa hoop. The selling price has been adjusted to reflect this.
