vehicle description:
Welcome to the sale of my Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet
I have owned this car since September 2014 when I purchased it from the Supercar Rooms. The first picture is a pic from their advert. It was my dream to own an air cooled 911and if you are looking at this auction you no doubt have similar feelings. I would not be selling this car if it wasn"t for going through a divorce which is reflected in the low start price and no reserve auction.
So onto the main points that may be of interest:
The car is displayed in Guards Red with Linen leather with red piped sports seats, manual transmission and was first registered in October 199. It has the later 17 Cup 1 Alloy Wheels and Cup Mirrors. It has electric windows, roof, spoiler etc... all of which are in full working order. It has the Porsche factory fitted alarm and immobiliser. It has a full Porsche main dealer and specialist service history along with a load of other historical invoices for work undertaken and virtually every MOT certificate from its first through to its last in 2014 when I imported the car to Jersey where it currently resides. As an ex UK car, VAT is already paid so will only require re-registration if taking back to mainland UK.Recent roof which cleans up really well, no tears or ill fitting rubbers and no marks or clouding to the rear plastic window. The car is running on lowered suspension and has Cup steering wheel. It has the spare wheel, jack and carpet in the front compartment although not pictured in the advert.Last serviced around 4,000 miles ago and I shall have a service undertaken prior to collection of the vehicle. The car has not had an engine rebuild but it pulls really strong through the gears and there is good strong oil pressure shown on the gauge. Low mileage at just over 80,000.In the last 12 to 18 months I have undertaken the following work:New Continental Contact 2 Tyres all round and geometry set up.New DME Relay (upgraded to 993 model)New Fuel Pump (official Porsche item)New Battery (Varta)Various new bulbs and replacement wiring where neededNew under carpet sound absorber (many are often removed and not placed due to rotting from water ingress)I have probably done less than 200 miles since all of the above has been fitted.
I also have various other minor parts which I will throw in with the car. These include HID kit, new interior door pulls (as like most mine are faded) and new hydraulic bonnet struts (as again these get tired over time).
As for the bad (or less than good points), as unfortunately there always are some with a car of this vintage:The car would benefit from a full respray. It comes up pretty well with a machine polish, which you can see from the picture whilst at Supercar Rooms. Guards red of this age is known for fading and the car has had various paintwork on it over the years (prior to my ownership) and this is very clear when you stand in front of the car (less so on the pictures) as there is currently a mismatch of paintwork. Once machine polished this is not really noticeable at all and it comes up very well indeed. There are a few age related marks also on the car, although nothing bad at all and there is no noticeable rust on the sills, rear arches etc.. nor is there any rust inside the front boot where it is all solid. Some flaking to the paint on one of the side front panels, where it meets the bonnet. The wheels would benefit from a refurb as there is some flaking to some of the alloys. As with all 964"s it does drop some oil although the specialists that have worked on it have all commented that it is not bad at all for a 964!The car does let a little water in over time if it is left out in all weathers. If kept under a cover or indoors this is not an issue and there is no leaks when driving in the rain (although if you"re like me it"s unlikely you"ll be using it in anything but sunny conditions as the headlights and windscreen wipers really aren"t built for rain)!Would benefit from a different stereo as the head unit in it doesn"t really suit the car at all!My intention was that this car would be a keeper and I"d do it up over time most likely giving it a full respray, including wheel refurbishment in due course. It can with a machine polish look completely acceptable but given that the value of these cars are only going one way (they"re certainly not making them like this any more) then it would certainly suit somebody who has the time, money and inclination to work on it over time.
Please note that as the car has been registered in Jersey for the last 18 months it does not have a current MOT as we have no requirement for MOT or Road Tax in Jersey.
I would be happy to meet and collect people either from the Port/Harbour or airport at collection time. I am happy to answer any questions that people may have. Also happy to help by providing travel advice to those who are genuinely interested in the car.
I believe that the car is ostensibly a good car that with a little time and money spent on it could be a fantastic future classic for somebody to love.
I have started the auction at £22,000 which is considerably less than every other car on the market at the moment as it really must sell and of course for the reasons mentioned above.
There is no reserve so what the auction ends at, the car will sell for, so please bare this in mind. You are bidding to buy not barter!
I will require a £250 deposit immediately at the end of the auction unless you contact me beforehand and we agree otherwise.
Thank you for your timeDan
