I never thought I"d have to sell this car, but family"s growing and I had to get something with more seats, I bought another Porsche (Cayenne) because I was so impressed with this Boxster.
This car has had £1000s spent on it. After shopping around for the best low-mileage 986 I could find, it"s had some upgrades to make it even better.
The IMS bearing mod was done at 60K miles. For those of you who don"t know what this is; The Porsche flat 6 motor has a central bearing, which relies on high-revving to keep it well lubricated, a very small number of 2000-2006 Boxsters suffered a bearing failure which meant a full rebuild. Rumours of this fault caused a lot of people to replace the standard IMS bearing (a £2k engine-out job). I was cautious and bought one which had the mod done.
Having researched the IMS thoroughly I found it can be protected by using the correct synthetic oil. The oil and filter has been changed every 5K miles. The thermostat and water pump have been upgraded to the "cool running" system which warms the engine up more gradually and allows the cylinder liners to be heated evenly from cold.
At 67K miles, every sensor on the engine was replaced (£1260 total) due to a duff emission sensor which showed a hard-to-trace error after the battery was disconnected (to fit the touchscreen Pioneer Nav).
The audio/nav uses an iPhone 4 or iPod-touch to run Apps. It"s hooked up to two Rockford-Fosgate component speakers in the front and two stealth-fitted 8 subs in the rear parcel compartment.
The standard Porsche Tiptronic uses switches on the steering wheel, but these aren"t easy to use (so people tend to just use the auto-box all the time). It"s now been upgraded to a proper paddle shifter setup, by Works-Bell carbon-fibre. This really makes a huge difference in drivability, combined with the "Europe/RoW" suspension upgrade, Pirelli Sotto-Zero tyres (under 600miles use), Brembo brake pads and 350mm D-shape steering wheel, this car handles amazingly, like an F4 car but with a luxury leather interior. I recommend test driving a few Boxsters before, so you"ll appreciate how good this one is.
With the car, comes the standard lights and steering wheel (with Airbag), spare key-remote (with code label), a soft-top cover/protector, a custom-fitted full weather cover and two spare, anti-kerbing wheel-rim protectors. The XX reg plate is included in the sale.
The paint is excellent, the car has been waxed and polished. There is one scratch in the inside of the driver"s-side door opening and a very tiny (5mm) ding below the driver"s door, a few 1mm marks on the boot - all very hard to spot. The interior is clean and has been valeted, still got the new leather smell.
The electric roof was replaced 1 year ago, £860 brand new glass/fabric and fittings.
The wheels are 19 911 Turbo fitment, 11.5 wide rear, 9 front - in the photos, the tyres may look stretched on the rear, but they"re not. The wheel-rim protectors make the rims look wider than the tyres.The cornering grip of this (£1630 wheels and tyres) setup is incredible.
The lights are new LED units all round, (£1900 conversion).
