vehicle description:
Please read my terms and conditions for the sale BEFORE placing a bid –
Please wait for pictures and a description to be uploaded BEFORE placing a bid so you know what you are bidding on.
Please ensure you Google my location BEFORE bidding and ensure you can collect the vehicle – I am situated 10 miles east of the city of Bath, South-West England in Westbury.
The winning bidder will be required to pay a non-refundable £100 deposit upon winning the vehicle within half an hour of the auction ending irrespective of when they are coming to collect or where they are located. Failure to do so will result in the vehicle being re-listed after that half an hour and an unpaid item case being opened against that bidder - Absolutely no exceptions. - This is to eliminate the time-wasters out there, so to the genuine bidders sorry to sound harsh but I’m sure you can understand!
Full payment must be received within 7 days of the auction ending.
All vehicles sold on a spares/repairs basis simply for the fact they do not meet strict forecourt criteria - (for example, not new enough, mileage a bit higher than what is allowed etc.etc.) :)
Lastly, I actively encourage you to come and view the vehicle whilst the auction is running, after all that is what this period is designed for - I try my very best to describe as accurately and as honestly as possible but opinions can occasionally differ and vehicles may have other little niggles or I may occasionally get info wrong - She"s not a brand new car folks! – Buyer is responsible for satisfying his/herself with the vehicle prior to bidding – you bid to buy not to view and not to try and haggle on the final price it sells for.
By bidding on this item you are agreeing to accept the above.
Thanks,
*** A RARE opportunity! A classic Volvo 240 GLT Estate!! ***
A soon to be appreciating classic!
MOT – Has expired BUT ALL work has been done for the MOT - Please read below for full details....
Mileage – She has covered 183k miles which needless to say is nothing for a Volvo. If you are looking at this car you know what I mean.
Ladies and gentlemen,
It is with great regret that I am selling this timeless classic Volvo 240 GLT estate (this one in my opinion being slightly more desirable than your average silver examples as I believe it was a red 240 GLT estate that was shown in all of the adverts and the literature produced by Volvo as their top of the range best/best of the best!)
So.....the car......(firstly if you speak car lingo please do not feel patronized or belittled by my description as I write this for someone with very little knowledge of the 240 Volvo)....I believe these old 240"s were what gave Volvo its name for producing vehicles that would go on and on and on and outlive other cars from other manufactures by a long way - Please Google "the high mile club" and you will see just how many miles some Volvo owners are knocking onto their cars.
I knew a chap with one of these with over 400k miles on (original engine/box) and still going strong.
IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE - As mentioned above, the vehicle was put in for MOT at the local Mercedes-Benz dealership where it failed on the windscreen washer pump not working and a couple of bulbs. These were done and the car booked in for retest. 2 days later I went to get in the car and start it but it wouldn"t start. Where I had parked her up 2 days earlier she was low on fuel and so initially I thought she had run out of fuel so off I went to the petrol station to get some more. I bought 20 litres and chucked it all in and cranked her a bit in the hope that she would fire. I have replaced HT leads and spark plugs AND distributor cap to no avail. I am not mechanically minded and one Volvo expert did tell me over the phone that something might need cleaning or it might need bleeding properly but I haven"t a clue, have lost a lot of money on the car and its on here, a bargain for someone else that knows these better than I do. I CAN CONFIRM that the fuel pump is working and has been tested. What"s more annoying is that the day before it was put in for MOT, it was driven from Caldicot in Wales without any problems whatsoever! Such a shame as I am adamant it is something silly and simple but trying to find a reliable mechanic that says he will turn up when he says he will is like trying to pick the winning numbers on the lottery 10 times in a row.
So with the above said, you will need to bring a trailer/recovery truck to collect. I can help with loading. She"s a heavy old thing so either a winch OR I have a forklift truck here as a last resort.
Now, this car has been very well looked after and I have reams and reams and reams of receipts stuffed into the Volvo leather book-pack. In fact I have two book packs complete with owners manuals - all of which will go with the car to the new owner. I shan"t even attempt to go through every receipt and write in here as to what works she has had as there is just far too much over the years to go through and if I did....I"d be here until next Tuesday!.....Just think of it like this...when you look to buy a car you want lots of history to demonstrate it has been well looked after......THIS HAS IT!
It is worth noting that the cambelt was changed just before I got her. I bought her back at the beginning of this year from a lovely old couple in Caldicot, Wales of whom had had her for years and years and they had the cambelt done almost a year ago now - This has been recorded in the engine bay too and I think the intervals on these old Volvo"s are every 60k miles.
Clutch is fine and so are the brakes.
Bodywork-wise please remember the age of this vehicle. She"s not a 3 year old Vauxhall Insignia and as such has the odd mark here and there but is generally quite clean. I was quite impressed with the bodywork which again is what led me to buying this one as opposed to any others I looked at. It is plainly obvious that the red paintwork is somewhat faded and I was only saying this evening that if the weather weren"t so cold and wet, I"d be out there with my machine polisher and the G3!......but I just can"t beat the weather and get out there to give her a good going over. She will definitely come back up though with some elbow grease! - You could even go out there with a bottle of T-Cut and some Autoglym Super Resin polish and she"ll look a treat in no time!
Again I don"t have to teach those who are familiar with the 240"s to suck eggs but it is quite common for the rear arches to show little signs of rust and there are indeed a few signs on the rear arches on this old girl. I did have plans to completely gutt and strip the old girl with visions of getting her to a concourse standard as I do like old classic cars (currently have an Austin Metro with 16k miles on and a Roller Silver Spirit with 62k on too!)
Being the GLT she sports alloy wheels all round too. These are in good clean condition and the tyres have plenty of tread on each corner too - I had the tracking done not all that long ago at Westbury tyre and MOT centre using their laser system. She also has the headlight wipers/washers at the front too which work when you spray washer fluid on the windscreen and the headlights are switched on.
Please study the pictures carefully or better still come out and have a look for yourself. I am not trying to have anyone over, I just don"t want my time wasted!
Interior-wise she"s all there! She sports the full black leather interior (front two seats are heated). She cleans up well and there are floor mats to go over the carpets inside. Being a 20+ year old car there may be the odd plastic trim here and there that might need renewing. She has 4x electric windows though some of them are a little slow to go back up. I think the carriers may just need greasing up where they have become dry over the years.
Heater works very well and pumps out lovely warm air on all speed settings!
Even the seat belt indicator that clicks and warns you that you don"t have your seat belt on still works!
I have a dog cage for the rear of the vehicle too. I don"t own a dog nor did the previous owners but it is something they were given when they purchased the car and I got when I purchased it.
For those that aren"t also aware it is easy to convert these into 7-seater"s. The 6th and 7th seats were boot-seats facing the opposite direction. The two floor panels can be sourced on EBay and fitted in place of the existing panels which are simply covers hiding useful storage compartments.
So there you have it.....wish I didn"t have to sell as it took me ages to find this example! I am losing space at home so she"s got to go :( Whoever wins this auction will have a cracking car and soon appreciating classic for very little money!
As stated, I have the full log book, 2x book-packs with owners manuals, reams and reams and reams of receipts/service history and previous MOT"s.
You are welcome to come out and view her - that is absolutely fine. Please just message me with a time and day.
Sold as seen so grab an absolute bargain to clear!
Thank you for looking - Best of luck with the bidding! - Any questions, just ask!
