vehicle description:

A rare opportunity to obtain an interesting Reliant REBEL estate car in need of renovation. This car is complete, unrestored and still a totally viable project looking for an enthusiastic new owner to give it the TLC it deserves.
As the present owner for last 13 years, I had hoped to restore the car but I realise I will never get around to it. It has been stored in a dry, airy barn for the entirety of my ownership, it still is. The photographs are from when I collected the car in 2003, apart from barn dust the car has been untouched ever since.
The engine turns OK although I have never attempted to start it, the 4-speed gearbox selects all gears. The gearbox is the earlier type with synchro on the top three gears but has a remote control extension to bring the gearstick back between the front seats. The separate chassis looked pretty sound when I bought the car, it will not have deteriorated since then but I would anticipate some repair will be necessary. The fibreglass body is very straight and undamaged except for the front and rear valances which have been damaged, I suspect, by a previous owner driving over rough ground. The rear valance is complete but cracked, the front has the number plate mount missing. The front bumper has been removed but is in the car, the rear bumper is still fitted but is bent at one end. All glass is intact. The interior is standard, fluffy seat covers have been added but the original seats are underneath. The carpets are missing or decayed as one would expect on a 47-year old car. The dashboard is very basic but remains complete. The headlining has fallen off (it was glued to the roof) and is missing. No work has been done, or parts robbed from this car since it was last on the road.
Stop Press: I looked under the car in some detail yesterday and can see no penetrative rust on the chassis at all. I cannot guarantee there is nothing I overlooked but the chassis looks pretty sound to me.
The car has a V5c document in my name. It is a tax exempt Historic Vehicle.
The REBEL is the four-wheel variant of the Reliant Regal three-wheeler and they are a genuinely nice, fun and yet practical classic car that is very economical to own and use. I had a similar, slightly later model on the road for many years and used it for daily commuting. The little car frequently interested other road users and I was often asked what it was, they are unusual enough that most people have never heard of a four-wheeled Reliant, certainly not the REBEL which was replaced by the better known and much more common Kitten (four-wheel variant of the Robin). With the rear seats up there"s plenty of room for four in the car (or five at a pinch!!) with a bit of luggage space as well. The rear seats can fold down to make a surprisingly commodious load space accessible through the side opening rear door. They will easily take a washing machine or fridge.
I have many used spares in stock for these cars available for separate purchase, to help with restoration.
The car is available for inspection prior to sale and I would recommend this. Please don"t ask for buy-it-now deals, the auction will run to completion. I will not entertain any change in the sale price after the auction closes.
These cars are now rare, maybe 50 REBELs or less still exist in total. There is a super Owner"s Club, very active. They are one of the very few 60"s microcars that have not yet become unaffordably expensive. Surely it"s only a matter of time before their retro quirky charm is recognised as is the Isetta or Messerschmitt - and the REBEL is really a much more practical choice.
