I listed this item as a Buy It Now @ £ 1695.00 or nearest offer. I received an offer from a guy from afar without him seeing it and after a couple of days accepted it. After that I never heard a dickie bird from him! So having gone through the appropriate channels, here we are again. This time on auction with a Low Start Price and No Reserve. I have been running this Renault ESPACE on and off for most of this year, it really is a most impressive vehicle and hard to part with. In travel it is very smooth and worthy of those acalades such as like riding on a Magic Carpet. In the driving position you sit up high and have a commanding view of the road through all that glass. With the automatic box it really is just a matter of putting your foot on the accelerator and gliding along. Everything else is done for you. The handbrake is electric so engages & releases automatically so no worries of rolling back at tricky hilly T-Junctions.
There is no ignition key in the traditional sense. Instead a key card, like a credit card which you slot into a card reader, press a button and the car starts. When you leave the vehicle and walk away with the key-card in your pocket, the vehicle locks itself. This is quite a common feature on cars today but 10 years ago it was still relatively cutting edge. 2 working key-cards are supplied with the vehicle, although one is slightly damaged as if the dogs got it ☺
Back in the 80"s when the first generation ESPACE emerged, besides being a pioneering MPV they were also seen as quite a prestige car. Ours offered here is a fourth generation ESPACE and the last shape to be officially brought to the UK although the car does continue as a 5th generation in Europe as a left hand drive. Our ESPACE is the rare Top Of The Range Initiale Paris version.
This fully loaded model has all 7 seats in full black leather with interior leather trim also to the doors, transmission shift & gaiter and steering wheel. Blue LED Displays built into the front passenger and driver"s doors indicate interior temperature adjustable from the climate control on the driver"s side door. The air conditioning / climate control on this vehicle is fully working and effective. Other Initiale features on the car include working Satelite Navigation (although I doubt it will be up to date in terms of upgrades) Boot CD Stacking system, Electric Seats and every window has its own pull down blind for privacy/security. Rear passenger entertainment is provided by way of a head up DVD system which comes with its own remote control and instructions. For this reason you can deduct that this ESPACE has no sunroof (s). Another Initiale feature is Xenon headlights.
The Blue LED Dashboard works without fault and incorporates a computer which displays mpg and other information. At present it is displaying Check ESP & Check ABS but I have not let that concern me as the car seems to be driving fine. I did have work done on the rear brakes very recently (new discs & pads) so perhaps the message just needs resetting. I am told there is a cheap plug in tool that erases such messages but I am not really into that sort of approach and wouldn"t know where to start anyway ☺
I know many reading will be familiar with the ESPACE so really don"t need to tell you that all the seats can be removed to create van like space. So can become a useful utility vehicle if you do antique fairs etc but with its seven seats it is more likely that this vehicle has been a big player on the school run. The interior is generally in good clean condition with no rips to the leather. It does however need a good valet as it looks like misplaced kid"s snacks have found their way into crevices such as the seat moorings. ESPACEs used to have front seats that spun around into the rear like captain"s chairs, not sure if these do as I have never tried them.
The beauty of this Top Of The Range ESPACE is that you get all the nice extras and yet the economy of a diesel. How the engine works with the auto box can be a bit quirky but this is standard through this model as pointed out in various auto reviews. The car does not overheat with the temperature staying in the mid range.The service history does seem to support the indicated mileage but I cannot guarantee it. Furthermore I could not find any documentation to show that the timing belt has been replaced.
There is a large Renault document wallet of instruction books, service book, CD"s for the sat nav etc with the car along with numerous bills & old MOTs. I know the number of previous owners seems quite high but I think it goes with the territory of these large and complex vehicles. They are not for everyone all the time. Just to point out that this is the standard bodied ESPACE, not the slightly longer Grande ESPACE.
You can see from the photos that the bodywork is in generally good condition. It says its beige on the logbook but look gold in some light and silver (as in the photos) in others. The worse part is the area forward of the rear wheel arch on the nearside. (see photo) Close up, please be prepared for some other lesser rubs and scratches comeasurate with the age of the car. The doors & bonnet are Aluminium so no rust problems there. Another thing to mention is that the car has recently had a new battery.
My main reason for sale is that I have other vehicles I have to use such as work vans and it does not do a car like this any good to be left lying around unused. I would discourage you from pressing the Buy It Now button until you have come and inspected and driven the car as there may be things important to you that I have overlooked. Please look at my other feedbacks on vehicle sales for a growing reputation of fairness and honesty of description. Finally I have to say that due to the age and complexity of the vehicle it is sold as seen and approved with no warranty given or implied. £ 100 Paypal deposit at purchase then balance in cash on collection.

NB. I forgot to mention that the headlights are a bit frosted at the front (not enough to fail an MOT) I have been told it can be removed with some rubbing down compound but have not got round to trying it. Also the silver finish to the alloy wheels is flaking in places on a couple of them. One of the alloys has lost its centre badge. Nearside front bumper corner has typical rub and scrub marks.
