The old fella bought this Robin LX from the local dealer in April 2004 with 16452 miles on it. For the next eight years he put less than a 1000 miles a year on it so in April 2012 the mileage was only 23800 at MOT test. Since then he"s only put 200 miles a year on it, and less than that in the past year, so it now sits at a genuine 24500 miles from new.
Rather than bother with an MOT an another years motoring the old fella decided to pack in driving for good and put the Robin up for sale. So it is sold as he left it, which means the MOT expired on June 10th. The good news is, it drives as it should and everything works. It starts on the button, well, choke actually, and the engine warms up to normal temp and ticks over sweet and quite. There are no knocks bangs nor squeaks that shouldn"t be there. Brakes steers stops as it should. All the lights illuminate and the wipers and washers work perfectly well. The heater hots up nicely too, and the fan blows like a gale! The interior is clean and tidy but has not been polished or tarted up to look like new. It is simply original and good. I think there"s a bobbin missing off the passenger door window winder. The windows do go up and down and all the door locks work perfect. The seats are fitted with some period faux leather quilted covers which look great if you"re into that sort of thing. They kind of match the period radio cassette player which does work, and the aerial is in good shape too!
The front bumper has a small chunk out of it where the old boy tried to move a local mountain some time ago, but other than that the bodywork is as it should be. It"s an easy repair and is clear to see in the pics. Yes the paint is faded but I polished the bonnet by hand and it came up really good, as will the rest of the Robin if done properly. I was advised to leave as is, as apparently there are some who like these things as they are, in their original kept and used state. Your choice then.
Cheap to tax £81 full year, and cheap to insure, good on petrol and a reliable engine (developed from the original Austin 7 engine getting on 100 years ago) with super low mileage and great ownership provenance with original purchase receipts to prove, and old MOT cert as proof of mileage, there is also the correct users manual present too.
