After 2 years of umming and erring I’ve finally decided to part with the Scimmie
1976 Reliant Scimitar SE6 3 Litre Ford Essex – Manual with Overdrive,
Jaguar XJS front seats (and rears to be modified to fit fit)
Poly bushed suspension front and rear
Adjustable shock absorbers
Top end engine work undertaken
Rear axle brackets replaced (new bearings and seals also fitted)
High output alternator
Upgraded cooling to SE5 spec
Stainless exhausts and fuel tank
Fuse boxes replaced with modern blade type
Carb recently cleaned
Pertronix type breakerless ignition
Datsun Z alloys and good tyres (with spare)
Electric windows fitted (both side need freeing up due to inactivity)
Mountney wooden steering wheel
Engine, axle and suspension work done by Scimitar expert and racer Richard Carter.
Comes with some spares including window motors, seals, shock absorbers and whatever else I have lying around.
Carb idle / mixture screws need adjusting to get it running properly
The hatchlock is also temperamental. Currently I can’t unlock it (you can still access through the rear seats).
The front seats are mounted on steel box sections that should be carpeted/painted to finish nicely.
Paint is typical Scimitar, lots of blistering mainly on roof, tops of wings and shoulders of doors, there is also some linear crazing around the hatch and star crazing around rear wiper. There is also some cracking/chips on the front wheel arches. So, plenty of imperfections but not as bad as many you might see.
The interior is generally in good condition (although no radio is fitted), decent carpets.
Engine is strong and gearbox and overdrive work perfectly
Last MOT’d a couple of years ago with 3 minor advisories (the steering gaitor has been replaced) – and having only done 800 miles since. The carb needs tuning, the handbrake cable needs adjusting and it needs a jubilee clip fitting to secure the fuel line to the tank outlet. It has been stood for a while now so I would recommend the main service items are reviewed before submitting for MOT.
The car comes with a huge history file.
I’d urge anyone interested to get in touch / inspect the car before bidding
