vehicle description:
Here is a 1990 Rover Metro GTi I bought approximately 2 months ago from it"s previous, and original owner from 1990.
It was driven into a garage 12 years ago after an oil change and parked there since. The original owner having several other classic cars to restore and drive he decided it was time the Metro had to go.
It sadly has some significant body corrosion in rather odd places for a Metro, where as some of the usual hot spots are relatively clean.
The rear roof and boot hinge channel is quite rusted and the boot hinges are coming away from the main roof. A new roof is certainly needed for a restoration.
The LH front A pillar has some rust and a hole around the area it meets with the scuttle panel. The same side inner wing will also need attention, however there is a NOS panel currently rather handily on ebay that will aid this significantly.
The sills are not the worst I have seen given the car"s mileage of around 100,000 miles ( this can be double checked). Wheel arches again, usually nortorious for disolving are pretty decent considering.
Floors wise, the front jacking points are previously repaired with some rivetted L plates (?!) - could well be all cut out and fresh plate welded in for a clean repair.
Boot floor not too bad, the edges and around the rear wheelarch tubs are pretty decent but not without scabs and staining, some Metros of much lower mileage are almost detached here, as are the seat belt anchors, however they are pretty good here on GDP.
Upon arrival of the car I removed the sideskirts, wings and full interior bar dash to assess the rust situation. Apart from 2/3 screws in the sideskirts that were truely rusted and useless, all bolts, screws and clips are labelled into zip sandwich bags ready for reassembly and not just tossed into a bucket.
The interior is in very good condition, the previous owner had previously swapped the front seats around to even the wear. It truely has been cared for. The seats, carpets, seatbelts and trims are in very nice condition but the headlining is poor and stained.
2 keys with original keyrings.
Mechanicals wise, the engine had an oil change just before it was laid up 12 years ago and currently turns over but will not start. I have run my Sykes Pickavent ACR diagnostic on the car and there are zero error codes, however the fuel pump does not prime even via the SP machine, the relays in the engine bay click when they should, so I assume with no use the fuel pump has seized. The gears feel nice and tight however the gearbox is untested. It rolled ok into the garage and is manouvrable. The hand brake is slightly stuck but 2 people can easily push the car around.
There are stacks of paperwork, original owners manuals and infact notes for every petrol fill since new. Pictures of this can be provided later and I"ll try and list them online.
This car is definately a restoration and not for the faint hearted and PLEASE do not message regarding parts as this car will not be broken for spares.
Please feel free to ask questions and I hope you appreciate just how rare this car is. A 1 owner from new, 1990 (launch year) Metro GTi with very rare optional extra driving lamps and stacks of paperwork.
Will need trailering from Keston, Kent. This has been relisted as winning buyer did not turn up.
