This is a really beautiful, well-maintained, low-mileage Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 2S. It has been seriously well-looked after: stored in a heated garage, always run on premium fuel, and generally pampered. The car comes with many desirable options, including: Sport Chrono Plus performance package, sports exhaust system by Hayward & Scott, sunroof, sports seats with extended leather, Bi-Xenon headlights, sports steering wheel, navigation system, tinted windscreen and red seat belts front and rear. It also has a new clutch and a new alternator, and the bores have recently been inspected and given the all-clear by noted specialists JZM Porsche of Kings Langley.
The 996 was a revolutionary departure for Porsche; the 997, however, is more of a refinement of the 996 theme, with cooler styling and a higher-quality, more technologically evolved feel across the board. At first, just 3.6-litre Carrera and 3.8-litre Carrera S coupes were offered; there were also some subtle styling changes, including larger rear view mirrors, newly-designed 18 and 19-inch wheels, and new lights featuring LED technology. In general, the 997 represents a vast leap forward over the 996 in terms of its sophistication and quality, leading in turn to much-improved driver satisfaction. The engine is larger and more powerful - in the case of this car, the "S", its 3.8-litres put out 350 b.h.p. - the braking system is uprated, and the look is a major improvement, with a slightly shorter, wider, more muscular profile and a welcome return to round headlamps. The interior design is also a huge advance on the 996, with larger seats, a lower driver position, and refined features overall which still manage to acknowledge Porsche"s long and storied past, being more similar to a classic 911 than to the outgoing 996.
The "S" outsold the standard Carrera by roughly three to one. It is a seriously fast car, with great power delivery through its 6-speed gearbox, and will do 0-60 in around 4.5 seconds, with a top speed of 190 mph. The 997 series has always received great reviews from the motoring press - as Jeremy Clarkson put it in his inimitable fashion, it will make love to your fingertips and stir your soul! With newer 911s attracting criticism for their electrically-assisted steering, values on this earlier car are sure to start climbing - in other words as well as being exciting, immense fun and a real driver"s car, it is also a very good investment.
